Blue Hose Late Second Half Rally Falls Short

CHARLESTON, S.C.  – Presbyterian scored 11 points in the final 30 seconds and had the ball with three seconds left but the Presbyterian Blue Hose (10-16, Big South: 3-8) came up short in a 71-70 loss to the Charleston Southern Buccaneers (10-17, Big South: 6-6) on the road on Wednesday evening.
 
Kory Mincy and Kobe Stewart each scored 19 points. Kaleb Scott scored 12 points. Presbyterian finished the game with a 24-6 advantage in points off turnovers.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Presbyterian scored the game's first four points off jump shots from Scott and Stewart. Then, Charleston Southern scored the next nine points. A layup from Stewart with 15;33 on the clock stopped the CSU run. With 13:44 on the clock, Scott connected on a jumper in the lane cutting Charleston Southern's lead to 13-12. The Blue Hose tied the score at 19 when Mincy connected on a three from the top of the key with 7:08 on the clock. Charleston Southern scored four straight points regaining the lead. After a dunk from Jaylen Peterson and a layup from Harvey in span of a couple of seconds the Blue Hose knotted the score at 23. Charleston Southern regained the first half lead for good after knocking down a three with 3:53 left in the half. Stewart connected on a turnaround jumper with one second on the clock cutting Charleston Southern's halftime lead to 31-27.
  

SECOND HALF 
– Scott just as he started the game also scored PC's first two points of the second half. Charleston Southern maintained the lead for the first eight minutes of the half. Charleston Southern led 44-41 with 12:11 on the clock, Presbyterian scored five straight points taking a 46-44 lead after a three-point play from Stewart and a dunk by Scott. Charleston Southern went on a 15-2 run behind several threes taking a 59-48 lead with 4:55 left on the clock. A layup from Stewart, a dunk by Jaylen Peterson and a jumper from Mincy got the Blue Hose back in the game, 61-55, with 3:12 on the clock. Presbyterian trailed Charleston Southern, 66-59, with 30 seconds on the clock. Presbyterian would score 11 points over the closing 30 seconds behind two free throws from Mincy, a layup from Peterson, and four made free throws from Carl Parrish. Presbyterian forced a CSU turnover under its basket with three seconds on the clock trailing 71-70. Mincy's shot to win the game was online but it hit the rim and bounced off at the buzzer.
 
NOTES
  • Mincy's 19 points marked his 23rd double-figure scoring game of the season.
  • Stewart's 19 points were his 21st double-digit scoring game of the season.
  • With his 12 points, Scott has scored in double-figures seven times this season
