FARMVILLE, Va. – Behind a career-high 18 points from
Quadir Pettaway, the Presbyterian Blue Hose (11-16, Big South: 4-8) completed the season sweep of the defending Big South Tournament Champion Longwood Lancers (16-11, Big South: 5-7) with a 77-68 road win on Saturday evening.
Pettaway was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line on the way to his 18 points.
Kobe Stewart scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Carl Parrish scored 11 points off the bench.
The Blue Hose shot 50.9 percent (29-for-57) from the field while shooting 59.1 percent (13-for-22) in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Stewart scored Presbyterian's first two points on a jump shot. The Blue Hose scored nine of the game's first 12 points taking a 9-3 lead after
Jamahri Harvey knocked down a three from the corner four minutes into the game. Longwood scored five straight points cutting PC's lead to one point. Parrish knocked down two straight threes pushing the Blue Hose lead to 15-10 with twelve and a half minutes on the clock. After a layup from
Triston Wilson, Presbyterian enjoyed their largest lead of the half, 17-10. With the Blue Hose leading 19-12, the Lancers went on a 7-2 scoring run cutting the Blue Hose's lead to 21-19 with eight minutes on the clock. At the 5:21 mark, Longwood tied the score at 26. Pettaway broke the tie by connecting on a tough jumper in the lane with five minutes left in the half. The lead exchanged hands a couple of times with a few ties over the next few minutes. With two minutes left in the half, Longwood took a 34-30 lead. The Blue Hose behind threes from Parrish and Wilson and a jumper from Stewart closed the half on an 8-0 scoring run taking a 38-34 halftime lead.
SECOND HALF – Longwood scored the first four points of the half tying the score at 38.
Kaleb Scott scored inside pushing the Blue Hose back in front. Then, Longwood again tied the score. The lead exchanged hands a couple of times. With 13:11 on the clock, Wilson scored inside putting Presbyterian back in front for good. After two free throws from
Iverson King, the Blue Hose took a 64-54 lead with 6:34 left in the half. Longwood scored eight of the next 10 points cutting Presbyterian's lead to 66-62 with four minutes on the clock. Stewart stopped Longwood's momentum with a layup at the 3:12 mark. Longwood cut Presbyterian's lead to four points, 70-66, with a minute left in regulation. Timely free throw shooting by Pettaway and Wilson and a tough jumper from the foul line from Stewart closed out Presbyterian's 77-68 road win.
