Strong Second Half Performance Leads Blue Hose Over Radford

RADFORD, Va.  – Behind four double-figure scorers led by Kobe Stewart's 26 points and a strong second half total team performance led the Presbyterian Blue Hose (12-17, Big South: 5-9) to an 80-73 road win at the Radford Highlanders (17-12, Big South: 7-7) on Saturday afternoon.
 
Stewart scored 17 of his 26 points in the decisive second half. Kory Mincy scored 13 points and dished out six assists. Carl Parrish scored 12 points off the bench. Kaleb Scott scored 10 points. Iverson King nearly recorded a double-double with eight points and eight rebounds.
 
Presbyterian overcame an eight-point first half deficit while limiting the Highlanders to 30 second half points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Behind baskets from Stewart, Parrish, and Scott the Blue Hose jumped out to an early 7-3 lead. Two free throws from Jaylen Peterson, who scored nine points, increased PC's lead to 9-3. Radford would eventually tie the score at 12 with 11 minutes on the clock. Stewart converted on two free throws to put the Blue Hose back in front. Radford regained the lead and then a three from the top of the key by Mincy gave Presbyterian a 17-15 lead. Radford tied the score and Stewart again put the Blue Hose back in front 19-17, with a layup at the 8:11 mark. Radford completed a four-point play to go ahead by two. Stewart tied the score at 21 with a hook shot in the lane. Radford scored four straight points to regain the lead. A layup by Scott with 4:43 on the clock tied the score at 29. Radford scored 12 of the next 16 points taking a 41-33 lead with one minute on the clock. Mincy scored five of the half's final seven points cutting the Highlanders' halftime lead to 43-38 after knocking down a three from the top of the key with five seconds on the clock.
 

SECOND HALF 
– Stewart scored Presbyterian's first eight points of the half.  The Blue Hose cut Radford's lead to one point several times in the first three minutes of the half. With 15:33 on the clock, Presbyterian's Jamahri Harvey converted on two free throws giving the Blue Hose the lead, 48-47, that they would never relinquish at the 15:33 mark. With 7:53 on the clock, the Blue Hose led 60-57, PC scored eight straight points increasing their lead to 68-57 with five and a half minutes on the clock. Stewart began the scoring run with a three from the corner. Mincy scored three points and Scott scored the other two points during the run. Radford cut Presbyterian's lead to five points a couple of times but clutch free throw shooting from Parrish, King, and Peterson during the final minute closed out Presbyterian's victory.
 

NOTES
  • Stewart's 26 points marked his sixth 20-point scoring game of the season.
  • Mincy recorded his 25th double-digit scoring game of the season with his 13 points.
  • With his 12 points, Parrish has collected 13 double-figure games this season.
  • Scott's 10 points marked his seventh double-figure scoring output of the season.
  • Presbyterian shot 84 percent (27-for-32) from the free throw line.
  • The Blue Hose defense limited Radford, the top three-point shooting team in the Big South, to 22 percent (2-for-9) from beyond the three-point arc in the second half.
