Scott’s Double-Double Paces Blue Hose to a Home Win Over USC Upstate

CLINTON, S.C.  – Behind four double-figure scorers led by Kaleb Scott's double-double, the Presbyterian Blue Hose (10-15, Big South: 3-7) topped the USC Upstate Spartans (5-20, Big South: 1-9), 75-64, at the Templeton Center on Wednesday night.
 
Scott scored a career-high tying 22 points while grabbing a career-high 14 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Kory Mincy scored 18 points while recording four assists and four steals. Iverson King chipped in with 13 points while grabbing eight rebounds. Kobe Stewart rounded out the double-figure scorers with 12 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Scott scored the game's first two points on a layup. USC Upstate would score nine of the first 11 points. Then, PC went on a 12-0 scoring run capped off by a layup from King, giving the Blue Hose a 14-11 lead with ten and a half minutes left in the half.  Scott scored six points during the run. The Spartans regained the lead, eventually increasing their advantage to 27-18 with just under six minutes on the clock. The Blue Hose finished the half on a 17-5 scoring run, taking a 35-33 halftime lead after Stewart converted on a fastbreak layup with 40 ticks on the clock. Mincy scored 11 points during the closing stretch of the half.
 

SECOND HALF 
– USC Upstate scored the half's first basket tying the score at 35. Scott pushed the Blue Hose back in front after a three-point play. Then, USC Upstate scored five straight points regaining the lead by two points. The score was tied a couple of times with several lead changes until with 13 minutes left in the half, Scott scored inside giving the Blue Hose the lead for good, 50-49, at the 12:50 mark. Scott scored six straight points during that stretch which led to a 54-49 PC lead. The Spartans cut Presbyterian's lead to one point a couple of times. With Presbyterian leading 65-64 with 4:38 on the clock, the Blue Hose closed out the game on a 10-0 run behind timely free throw shooting by Mincy and King and three baskets from Stewart.  
 

NOTES
  • Presbyterian finished the game with a 54-36 advantage on points in the paint.
  • Scott's 22 points marked his sixth double-figure scoring game of the season and his first 20-point scoring game.
  • Scott's 14 boards marked his third double-figure rebounds game of the season.
  • Mincy recorded his 22nd double-figure scoring game of the season with his 18-point performance.
  • With his 13 points, King has scored in double-figures eight times this season.
  • Stewart's 12 points were his 20th double-digit scoring game of the season.
