Blue Hose Down the Spartans Behind Anderson’s Season-High

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball team (5-18, 3-7) took a short trip to Spartanburg where they defeated their league rivals, the USC Upstate Spartans (5-18, 2-8) on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
The game opened with some back and forth which saw Presbyterian buckets from Paige Kindseth and Kishyah Anderson. With the game tied at five points apiece, Anderson hit a jump shot to give the Blue Hose their first lead of the night. The next four points went to the opponents, but Shelby Fiddler's layup tied the score at 9-9 before the end of the first quarter.

Second Quarter
Fiddler stayed warm during the break, taking the first basket of the second quarter, returning the lead to the Blue Hose. Not long after, Fiddler's name was called again as she sank the first triple of the night. Upstate answered with a three of their own, but PC held the advantage, 14-12. After another three-pointer from the opponents, Natalie Herrin answered by knocking down a triple for the Blue Hose. This sparked a seven-point run for PC, with jumpers from Anderson and Kindseth following. We were sent to the media timeout with Presby ahead 21-15. After the break, Anderson and Kindseth each struck again, forcing the Spartans to use a timeout with the score standing at 25-15. Four of the next five field goals came from the Blue Hose, each basket coming from a different PC player. The first half came to an end with Presbyterian leading 33-19.

Third Quarter
USC Upstate came out of the halftime break with some speed, taking the first four points of the third quarter. Anderson responded, taking control of the court and scoring six-straight points. The Spartans called a timeout with just over six minutes on the clock while PC held a 39-23 cushion. Daniella Velez wasted no time coming out of the timeout, hitting a solid corner-three. Upstate answered with their own triple, but Aminata Tal struck back with a three-point play. The blue and garnet went on to take the next five points and extend their lead to 50-27, led by another three-point play from Tal. An exchange of points brought us to the end of the third quarter with PC leading 55-31.

Fourth Quarter
The opponents were the first to score in the final quarter of play, but Kindseth took a pair of baskets to follow. Coach Sardin used a timeout after the Spartans went on an eight-point run and cut their deficit to 59-41. Over the last few minutes of play, Tal hit a three-pointer and Anderson added four points. In the end, the Blue Hose left Spartanburg with a 66-49 victory.
