George Washington & Northern Kentucky Defeat PC in Saturday Doubleheader

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College softball team stumbled in consecutive losses to George Washington and Northern Kentucky on Saturday evening, falling to the Revolutionaries (4-2) and the Norse (11-4) in day two of the Pinnacle Blue Hose Invitational.

PC found themselves playing from behind in both bouts, nearly forcing extra innings in the first half of the DH but unable to send home two runners in scoring position as the game reached its climax.

Unable to find their footing against a Northern Kentucky opponent that almost captured the Horizon League championship last spring, the Scotsmen now sit at 1-3 on the campaign and will return to the field for their last meeting of opening weekend tomorrow.

Head coach David Williams' gang will look to sweep Morehead State on Sunday at approximately 12:15, having already beaten the Eagles 6-4 in the first clash of 2025.

NOTABLES

- Preseason All-Big South selection Kasey Wolfe batted .500 in two spirited losses (4-for-8), helping the Blue Hose gather nine hits against NKU with a couple of multi-hit offerings herself.

- Senior rightfielder Mallory Fletcher served up PC's third homer of the young season down the back half of the Northern Kentucky matchup, scoring pinch runner Molly Mattas who grabbed an RBI in the previous at-bat.

- Fletcher's BA now reads .500 through four games (five-for-ten), with her and Wolfe adding up for 15 total bases, four walks, two steals, and five RBI.

- Junior Gracie DeCuir made her pitching debut in a Blue Hose uniform after staying in the outfield up until now, splitting duty with Peyton Duncan in the defeat against the Norse.

GAME ONE – GEORGE WASHINGTON def. PRESBYTERIAN, 4-2

- Delivering four runs in the first four frames, the Revolutionaries' methodical start looked to be more than enough for the W in what was a first-time-ever meeting between the two schools.

- However, the mood shifted in the bottom of the 4th once Wolfe brought senior Kelby Goodrum home on a left-center single. Three plays later, second-baseman Emma Yanes drew a bases-loaded walk that suddenly cut the lead square in half.

- GW regained their composure in the immediate aftermath, however, gaining a strikeout and a groundout to shortstop that froze PC's momentum.

- Presby left four others on base in the final three innings while still trailing by two, ending the affair on another groundout to shortstop with runners on the corners.

- Wolfe faced 26 batters in her second start of the season, followed by freshman Grace Kelley who struck out a pair in just under two innings of work.

GAME TWO – NORTHERN KENTUCKY def. PRESBYTERIAN, 11-4

- NKU repeated their fast start from Game 1 against the Blue Hose yesterday, taking a 6-1 advantage with five-and-a-half innings passed.

- Mattas and Fletcher's back-to-back extra-base hits gave the home side some late-game life as the lead whittled down to two, although the Norse responded with a five-spot in the top of the next stanza that concluded the night's scoring.
