Presbyterian Tops Gardner-Webb On Senior Day

CLINTON, S.C.  – Seniors Kaleb Scott, Kobe Stewart, and Jamahri Harvey paced the Presbyterian Blue Hose (14-17, Big South: 7-9) to a 68-57 win over the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs (10-19, Big South: 5-11) on Senior Day in the Templeton Center on Saturday afternoon.
 
Scott led the Blue Hose with 21 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Stewart chipped in with 15 points and nine rebounds. Harvey knocked down three three-point field goals on his way to 13 points.
 
Presbyterian's defense held Gardner-Webb to 57 points and 12.5 percent (1-for-8) shooting from beyond the three-point arc.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Scott scored the game's first two points on a driving layup. The Blue Hose scored six of the first eight points. Gardner-Webb would tie the score at 11 at the 13:45 minute mark. A dunk from Scott gave the Blue Hose a lead they would never relinquish. With 2:27 on the clock, the Blue Hose led 29-24. Presbyterian would end the half on a 9-0 run, taking a 38-24 halftime lead. The final 20 seconds of the half ended with a flurry of activity, which began with a Kory Mincy steal, then Mincy passed to Jaylen Peterson for an alley-oop dunk, Peterson with a blocked shot, the frenetic sequence ended with a 25-foot three from Harvey at the first half buzzer.
 

SECOND HALF 
– Stewart started the second half scoring with a jump shot in the paint. With 17:02, a dunk by Scott gave the Blue Hose their largest lead of the game, 44-26. Presbyterian maintained a double-figure lead until Gardner-Webb went on an 8-0 run cutting PC's advantage to 55-47 with 6:29 on the clock.  A jump shot in the lane by Scott and a three from Harvey from the corner ended Gardner-Webb's run, pushing Presbyterian's lead to 60-47 with 5:38 on the clock. Gardner-Webb would cut Presbyterian's lead to nine points a couple of times over the remaining five minutes. A three from Mincy pushed the Blue Hose's lead back to double-figures, 66-54, for good with two minutes left in regulation.  
 

NOTES
  • Scott's 21 points marked his second 20-point scoring game of the season.
  • Stewart's 15 points was his 26th double-figure scoring game of the season.
  • Harvey's 13-point scoring output was his 12th double-digit scoring game of the year.
  • Mincy nearly recorded a double-double with eight points and nine assists.
