Lacrosse Hampered by Merrimack

CLINTON, S.C. – In the final encounter of a six-game homestand that has spanned over two weeks, the Presbyterian College lacrosse team couldn't get by the Merrimack Warriors on Wednesday night, falling 15-9 at Bailey Memorial Stadium.

A 5-0 first-half run by the visitors was enough to dispel a solid start by the Blue Hose, leading for the rest of the match after going ahead at the 13:41 tab of the second period.

PC was paced by senior Willow Hammond and sophomore Hannah Savage at three goals apiece, a career-high for the latter who scored twice in the opening quarter.

Head coach Eric Clakeley's squad will look to rebound from Wednesday's defeat in their third outing of the week at Kennesaw State. Their first road game in nearly a full month, they'll visit KSU for the '25 non-conference finale at 1:00 PM Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Savage's strong beginning, coupled with a 1st-quarter strike by senior Kenzie Partsch, had the Blue Hose ahead by a deuce with 2:34 to go in the opening chapter.

- However, the Warriors' awakening had Presby trailing 8-6 at the halftime intermission, witnessing the busiest quarter of the evening with eight combined goals in the 2nd.

- Merrimack steadily grew their advantage as they walked away with their first W of the year, outscoring the Scotsmen 7-3 in the final 30 minutes while led by Lindsay Atkinson's game-high six goals.

- The Savage hat trick happened with 5:31 left in the third stanza, bringing the Blue Hose to within three. It was 5-2 Warriors after that moment, however, keeping any PC comeback attempts grounded.

- Rookie Emily Currie has now taken the title of Presbyterian's leading point-getter on the season, sporting 25 after a one-goal, three-assist, five-draw performance.

- Kayleigh Aitken logged seven saves in the keeper's spot for the Blue Hose, while Merrimack took the edge in total shots at 33-26.

UP NEXT

- Coach Clakeley's gang heads to Georgia this weekend in search of revenge on Kennesaw State, who defeated them over 12 months ago by 10 points. Thus far, KSU touts a 3-6 record with a couple of wins over Big South foes (Wofford and Gardner-Webb).
