KENNESAW, Ga. – A mere two-goal deficit at the midway point snowballed to an eight-point setback for the Presbyterian College lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon, falling in the non-conference finale to Kennesaw State 15-7.
In what was the first road match for the Blue Hose in three full weeks, PC was unable to slow an 8-2 second-half differential from a KSU opponent that never trailed.
Freshman
Emily Currie managed her third game already with at least three goals, scoring a total of eight times in Presby's three appearances this week.
Presbyterian's two-out-of-nine ratio in free position opportunities was a determining factor in Saturday's outcome, while rookie
Morgan Thompson gained her first start at the goalie position and scattered seven saves along with a team-high six ground ball recoveries.
Head coach
Eric Clakeley's crew will take an 11-day rest before their next outing, set for a midweeker with High Point at Bailey Memorial Stadium on March 26.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- PC's most productive period was the opening 15 minutes, scoring four times (two by Currie and one apiece from
Hannah Savage and senior captain
Willow Hammond).
- The Blue Hose were within striking distance against the Owls with two quarters completed, trailing only by a deuce after a relatively quiet 2
nd among both offenses.
- That's when the game tipped to KSU's favor, building their lead up to 10-6 at the 45-minute mark and preventing any blue and garnet rallies.
- Kennesaw embarked on a 6-0 scoring spree down the stretch to put a pin in Saturday's result, reaching 37 shots and winning the battle on draw controls (16-10).
- Natalia Cruz saw the bulk of the game for the Owls, saving eight in over 42 minutes while Shannon Harrington led all players with five connections.
UP NEXT
- After competing in six games over the course of just 13 days, the Blue Hose will take a rest before Big South territory begins and host HPU in a week and a half.
- The Panthers have never been tripped up by Presbyterian in 15 attempts, winning in North Carolina last season 21-4. Going into a matchup with Virginia Tech, High Point has accumulated 55 goals over their last three showings, outlasting Coastal Carolina by six this weekend.
- ESPN+ will be broadcasting the league opener from Clinton, labeled for a 4:00 PM start.
