CLINTON, S.C. – The 2025 Big South Conference schedule opens up with a dandy this weekend in Clinton, as the Presbyterian College softball team takes on rival USC Upstate Friday and Saturday for the first of six league series.
ESPN+ will be on hand to stream all three games between the two divisional adversaries separated by less than an hour, competing in a doubleheader tomorrow at 1:00 PM which sets up the Saturday finale at 11:00 AM.
This weekend has all the makings of an intense atmosphere, with the Blue Hose taking on the Big South leader in batting average, earned-run average, and fielding percentage to start off the conference slate.
PC is in the middle of a seven-game homestand after facing Furman in a two-parter yesterday, bouncing back in a big way during the second outing to win 8-1 while sophomore pitcher
Kasey Wolfe turned in a fabulous effort.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- Few teams in mid-major softball boast a better resume than the Spartans and head coach Chris Hawkins in an unprecedented 33
rd season at the helm, sporting a 23-4 record. That win percentage of .852 ranks 13
th in the nation, the fourth-highest of all teams outside the "Power 4" conferences.
- Upstate has responded to each of their few losses with a win in the following game, bested only once at home in 17 attempts and winning 12 consecutive games in the month of February.
- After a shaky weekend in Florida where they downed Bryant twice but were swept by Stetson, the Spartans rebounded on Wednesday by grabbing back-to-back tough wins against South Dakota (5-4 and 7-3).
- They've earned at least 30 wins each of the last three seasons, claiming the Big South Tournament Championship last spring by winning two out of three against Winthrop in Rock Hill.
- Three Spartan players have already calculated at least 36 hits (Denver Lauer, Sophia Kardatzke, and Taliyah Thomas), leading all teams in Division I with 100 stolen bases and ranking 10
th in America with an average of eight runs per game.
LAST TIME OUT
- Largely thanks to Wolfe's pitching grandeur, the Blue Hose earned a Wednesday split against Furman by stunting the Paladins 8-1 in the second outing. The sophomore tossed a one-hitter in the victory while also finishing a triple short of the cycle and posting four RBI.
- One of the most elite two-way performances ever seen by PC softball, Wolfe was complimented by senior first-baseman
Kendall Owens and freshman
Audrey Burton, who each had three hits as Presby stacked up five extra-base swings.
- Head coach
David Williams' bunch has now reached nine wins on their home turf in 2025, surpassing at least eight runs against seven different schools when counting yesterday's Game Two thumping.
- Wolfe now sits third in the Big South for both batting average (.416) and on-base percentage (.489). She and Owens have been quite a hard-hitting duo this year, as the senior's OBP of .517 is better than all others in the conference.
- Presbyterian has hit 17 home runs with a month-and-a-half still remaining on the schedule, already an increase of four compared to the entirety of last season. Owens, Wolfe, and junior
Blair Darby are all slugging over .600, combining for 21 doubles and 11 homers.
