Big South Series No. 2 for Softball at CSU

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Forty-eight hours after an exhilarating non-conference victory over Wofford to denote their fourth win over the last five attempts, the Presbyterian College softball team continues an 11-game streak against other South Carolina schools by facing Charleston Southern this weekend on the road.

Hoping to continue their hot start to league play after downing USC Upstate twice at home, the Blue Hose and head coach David Williams will aim for their first series win over the Buccaneers since 2022.

PC is playing arguably their best softball of the season currently, winning back-to-back games by the same score (2-1) and walking off Wofford on Wednesday night courtesy of Spartanburg native Kasey Wolfe.

Already two better than their win total from all of last season, the Scotsmen will look to stay ahead of the pack in the Big South race and topple their fourth straight Palmetto foe.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

- It's been a month-and-a-half of turmoil for the Buccaneers and head coach Christi Musser in her fifth season, starting 2-6 but quickly righting the ship to go on a six-game winning streak. Since that streak fizzled out, however, CSU has fallen in eight of their last nine appearances.

- The Bucs were outgunned by Georgia Southern on the same night that PC conquered the Terriers, losing both ends of a doubleheader by a combined tally of 14-2.

- Charleston Southern is the lone team in the Big South who has not yet played a conference series, finishing dead even in divisional meetings last spring (nine wins, nine losses).

- It's been nearly three weeks since CSU managed more than four runs in a single game (March 1 versus Manhattan), earning their last win on the 14th over Fairfield at home in an eight-inning 4-3 walk-off.

LAST TIME OUT

- There was no question as to who was the MVP in Presby's midweek W over Wofford, as Kasey Wolfe produced a game-winning single over the Terriers for the second season in a row.

- She was responsible for both the tying score in the 5th and later the game-clincher in the 7th, scoring shortstop Baxleigh Arnette to give PC their fifth victory of the year by one run and second straight W of that nature.

- Coach Williams has his squad playing with supreme levels of confidence, beating Wofford and Upstate with stifling defense. Junior pitcher Peyton Duncan gathered nine strikeouts earlier this week (one away from her career-high), as she and Wolfe have surrendered only two runs in the last 14 innings.

- The Blue Hose have won consecutive games by the same exact score for the first time since 2022 (when they downed both Detroit Mercy and Appalachian State 8-0).

- Amazingly, tomorrow's series opener will be just the second true road game that Presby has played all season long. Their only true road appearance was a losing effort at Western Carolina on the first day of March, competing in 21 home games and eight neutral contests to this point.
