Softball Goes Back to Charleston for Cougar Doubleheader

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – The Presbyterian College softball team's nine-game road streak grinds on this Wednesday in the form of a non-conference doubleheader, visiting College of Charleston tomorrow in a 2:00 PM start.

Returning to the same city that they just left last weekend – facing Big South enemy Charleston Southern for a sequence of three – PC loops back around to face another opponent who is located less than an hour away from the Buccaneers.

The Blue Hose have matched up with College of Charleston just once in the past, a neutral-site outing in Columbia back in 2015 and a contest where the Cougars came away with the victory.

Presby hopes to move back into the win column after dropping the last two games to CSU, now sporting a 3-3 mark in league action which ranks fourth in the division.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

- College of Charleston has mostly been more successful inside of conference play compared to outside of it, winning six of their 13 games against CAA institutions. That includes two series wins over Hampton and UNC Wilmington, sweeping the Pirates at home.

- Exactly one week ago, the Cougars had gained the W in seven of their last eight games, although they were then tripped up by Stony Brook on Saturday and Sunday. They earned a slim 2-1 victory in the opener of that series, but ended on the wrong side of back-to-back losses by the same exact margin (5-4).

- Head coach Tracey Lynch and co. have won eight times in their own backyard, but are currently 0-2 versus Big South members (falling to USC Upstate by seven and Winthrop by a deuce).

LAST TIME OUT

- It was a sour Saturday for the Blue Hose after tasting the win against Charleston Southern in the first round, losing via run rule in games two and three.

- The 4-1 decision in the opener was PC's fourth straight triumph after claiming two in a row over Upstate and a walk-off to defeat Wofford. However, that momentum was obstructed thanks to a combined 20 runs by the Buccaneers in the next two affairs.

- Head coach David Williams' roster is crammed with noteworthy statistics, including senior first baseman Kendall Owens who has stacked up 14 doubles on the season. That's the second-most in America, trailing only Penn State's Brooke Klosowicz.

- Owens tops all players in the Big South with a .514 on-base percentage and 1.237 OPS. She, along with Kasey Wolfe and rookie Baxleigh Arnette, fill out three of the top ten spots in the conference's hit rankings. They've found 109 hits between them.

- On the defensive side of the field, junior pitcher Peyton Duncan has logged the most innings of anyone in the league (96.1), ranking second in the Big South with 78 strikeouts to this point.
