ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Presbyterian College softball team – after reaching their 10
th win of the season earlier in the week over Western Carolina – hits the road on Friday and Saturday for their last multi-team event of the calendar. Headed to Winthrop, they'll meet three non-conference opponents for a total of four games.
PC's schedule at the Eagle Classic will involve a doubleheader tomorrow against Boston University – one of the best mid-major programs in America as of late – and Norfolk State. The next day, the Scotsmen will have a second bout with the Spartans before ending the tourney versus Queens.
Head coach
David Williams' squad has been very comfortable at home through the first month of the season, playing 14 times in Clinton with just five bouts away from their own yard.
Seven games are still in front of the Blue Hose before Big South competition gets underway, going up against members of the Patriot League, MEAC, and ASUN in Rock Hill.

SCOUTING BOSTON UNIVERSITY
- PC starts off the weekend against a school who has stacked up a whopping 105 wins in just the last two seasons. Boston U was unblemished in conference play last year at 18-0, finishing the spring with a record of 53-6-1 and qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in the last six full seasons.
- The Terriers allowed two runs in three games as they claimed the Patriot League Championship, sending them to Norman, Oklahoma for the NCAA Round of 64. There, they managed to eliminate Cleveland State in an 8-0 mercy rule before going home themselves at the hands of Oregon.
- Head coach Ashley Waters has built a northeastern juggernaut – now in her 10
th season at Boston – placing the Terriers in the national rankings for a majority of the last two years and closing the '24 slate as the number 21 ranked team in the D1Softball poll.
- Despite a 6-0 start to this season (where they won their first four games by a combined margin of 23-0 including a shutout over ACC member Boston College), the Terriers have slipped a bit lately and have been defeated in seven of their last nine outings.
- Boston U was walked off by Ivy League opponent Brown last Friday, tying things up in the top of the 7
th but falling victim to a solo homer in Providence that handed them their fifth straight loss.
SCOUTING NORFOLK STATE
- Similar to Boston in that they started solidly but have crumpled in recent days, Norfolk State goes into the Winthrop Invitational with three losses in a row bringing them below .500.
- Head coach Carrie Hoeft had the Spartans at 4-1 to start her third season with the program, although they were held scoreless in back-to-back bouts with South Dakota and most recently wore a 6-5 setback versus UMass Lowell in Virginia.
- The Riverhawks surprised Norfolk with a three-spot in the final inning to steal the victory, producing all of those runs with two outs already tallied.
- Presbyterian has owned NSU in their only three contests against them, hosting the Spartans on opening weekend last year and laying the boom to beat them by a combined total of 22-1.
- The Blue Hose have allowed only two runs in 17 innings when going up against Norfolk State, as the Spartans ended up with a putrid final record of 4-43 after getting crushed by PC last February.
SCOUTING QUEENS
- It's been a topsy-turvy month for the Royals, who have locked horns with PC five times in the last two years. They now sit at 4-10 after splitting a Wednesday doubleheader with North Carolina A&T in Charlotte.
- Queens clobbered the Bulldogs in the first half of that DH (11-4), but were then silenced in the second bout for a 4-0 loss. That inconsistency has been the story for head coach Kella Armstrong, currently in year two with the program after being promoted in 2023.
- Undoubtedly Queens' main highlight of the season came on February 23, gaining an upset over Big Ten member Maryland at a neutral tourney in Chapel Hill. The Royals outlasted the Terps 5-4, with each of their runs occurring in the 2
nd inning.
- Curiously, Queens would lose the next six contests after toppling a Power 4 conference opponent, finally breaking that skid in the aforementioned A&T victory.
- Presbyterian rumbled with the Royals twice last spring, two games that were dramatically different. The opener was decided in extra innings and finished on a walk-off error, while PC gained a measure of revenge in the rematch thanks to eight runs and 14 hits.
LAST TIME OUT
- The blue and garnet were impressive for the majority of Tuesday's two-parter with WCU at home, whacking the Catamounts in the first duel by a 9-1 count which was their third straight mercy rule win.
- Coach Williams' squad was unable to achieve the sweep, however, as Western responded by pulling out a 5-3 decision in the nightcap. PC has now played WCU 30 times, more than any other school outside of South Carolina.
- Second-year star
Kasey Wolfe was named the Big South Player of the Week right before getting started against Western Carolina, hitting .600 over the prior weekend along with seven RBI and four extra-base swings.
- She remains the league leader in overall average (.463), while ranking second among all conference players with a .545 on-base percentage. Wolfe trails only teammate
Kendall Owens for the most walks in the Big South (11).
- Defensively, junior
Peyton Duncan is on pace for her best season yet in a Blue Hose uniform, already responsible for six personal victories and a 2.43 ERA. She's allowed one home run over 209 at-bats, throwing 54-plus innings and striking out 37 opponents.
