CLINTON, S.C. – For the second consecutive year, the annual Blue/White spring game was a smash hit as the Presbyterian College football team's intersquad scrimmage featured thrills aplenty.
PC's offense (team "blue") edged out the D (team "white") 35-33 over the first hour of action, which then led to a red zone drill that Team Blue also won by an 18-17 final tally.
On head coach
Steve Englehart's birthday, his crew pulled out all the stops and delivered an A+ ending to the team's spring schedule. Incoming sophomores
Tucker Bolen and
BJ Atkins hauled in leaping touchdowns near the end of the red zone drill, giving Team Blue the close victory.
Coach Englehart's Thoughts
"I told our team after the game that whatever happened tonight wasn't going to change my thoughts on how terrific our 14 spring practices were, as well as two other scrimmages that we ran before this. The offense really showed a lot tonight, and overall we've shown better football IQ as of late."
"We were able to give numerous young players meaningful reps, and so many guys made great plays in this scrimmage. Our roster continues to make good strides with both our more veteran players and the ones that will be stars of the future."

BLUE 35 – WHITE 33
- Team White was allotted 26 points at the beginning of the spring game, with Team Blue given the task of running 75 snaps to try and catch up to that number. Even with a 25-yard scoop and score by incoming senior
Carter Szydlowski, the offense eventually surpassed the defense with five total touchdowns.
- Team Blue's longest play came on a deep ball by
Warner Bush to incoming junior
Jacob Deller, the second of four touchdowns after Szydlowski's fumble recovery.
- Quarterback
Max Holtzclaw found Charleston Southern transfer Jaden Scott for a 35-yard score to pull Team Blue within five. From there, the offense logged a 50-yard field goal from
Jett Jackson that preceded a 17-yard TD rush by
Justin Montgomery.
BLUE 18 – WHITE 17
- Englehart directed his team to the red zone drill after the two-point win by Team Blue, restarting the score from scratch and setting new rules for both parties:
- The first team to score 18 points is victorious
- Teams will shuffle new offensive series at the 20-yard line
- Touchdowns + a PAT will be given the standard seven points
- If the defense holds the offense to a field goal attempt, they are rewarded with four points
- Team White held their ground for the first half of the red zone drill, forcing a field goal (which was made each time) on three straight series. That gave Team White an 11-10 advantage as they had calmed the passing attack down.
- Bolen and Atkins changed that notion with two touchdowns in the corner of the end zone, and although the potential game-winning PAT was blocked, the second try was successful and Team Blue achieved the exciting win.
