Softball Preps for First Home Series in Four Weeks

CLINTON, S.C. – Shelving a nine-game road swing earlier this week and now looking ahead to their first Big South series at home in almost an entire month, the Presbyterian College softball team aims to climb back up the league standings against Gardner-Webb.

PC will face the Runnin' Bulldogs twice on Saturday starting at 1:00 PM, with the same time allotted for the Sunday finale. ESPN+ will be on hand for the full series, as both schools attempt to get back in the win column.

The Blue Hose will try to bump a five-game losing skid that bled into a Tuesday loss at Wofford, while G-W hopes to rebound from a similar L at Appalachian State. Both of those games for PC and Webb were shutouts for the opposition.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

- Gardner-Webb carved out a solid non-conference resume (17 victories and a win streak that reached its apex at six games), although they've stumbled a bit in Big South territory with three series losses to Radford, Winthrop, and Longwood.

- G-W and Presbyterian were both swept by the Lancers in their most recent conference sets. The Runnin' Bulldogs put some momentum back on their side with two straight wins over ETSU in Boiling Springs, but were then blanked 8-0 by App State two days ago.

- Head coach Bailey Wigness (a 2011 national champion as an outfielder with Arizona State) earned three wins over Presby last spring, holding a five-game winning streak against the Blue Hose going into this weekend.

LAST TIME OUT

- PC will hope to resurge their bats tomorrow and Sunday after being held to two total runs in their last three showings. They'll hope to repeat the result of their only other Big South series at home, when they knocked off USC Upstate twice out of three.

- Senior first-baseman Kendall Owens is in possession of the highest on-base percentage in the seven-team division (.500 on the nose), slugging .670 and hitting 15 doubles which ranks seventh in the country.

- Elsewhere, junior pitcher Peyton Duncan ranks second in the Big South with 88 strikeouts at this stage of the year. She has started 23 games in 2025, the fourth-most at the NCAA Division I level, equating to 119 innings.
