Presbyterian Cruises Past Radford on Eventful Senior Day

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team (16-6, Big South: 2-3) celebrated Senior Day, Letterwinners Day, and Breast Cancer Awareness on Saturday afternoon with a dominant 6-1 win over the Radford Highlanders (4-11, Big South: 1-4) at the Templeton Tennis Courts. The match served as PC's regular-season finale and capped off an impressive run on their home courts.
 
With the victory, the Blue Hose secured a berth in the upcoming Big South Championship and will go on to face the Charleston Southern Buccaneers on Friday, April 18 at 9:00 a.m.
 
DOUBLES
PC got off to a strong start by claiming the doubles point. McKenzie Davis and Mary Ellen Longmire breezed to a 6-1 win at the number two position over Radford's Rachel Ekanem and Natalia Reimer to set the tone early. After the Highlanders evened things with a win at the top spot, the tandem of Madison Dennett and Elle Sceney clinched the point for the Blue Hose with a hard-fought 7-6 (7-1) tiebreak win at the number three spot against the Highlander's Brooke Murphy and Michaela Stephens.
 
SINGLES
In singles play, the Blue Hose maintained their momentum, earning wins on five of six courts. Longmire continued her strong form with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 decision at the number six slot over Radford's Rachel Ekanem to give PC a 2-0 lead. Dennett followed with a gritty three-set win at the number four spot, pulling away with a 6-0 final set after splitting the first two against her opponent Brooke Murphy.
 
Davis clinched the match at the number one position with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Radford's Michaela Stephens. Claudia Sanchez added a straight-set victory at the number two slot over the Highlander's Julia Abrams, and Sceney wrapped up the afternoon with a come-from-behind 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 win at the number five spot against Radford's Natalia Reimer. The Highlanders picked up their lone point at the number three position.
