ROCK HILL, S.C. – There are no two more important series than the next six games for the Presbyterian College softball team, looking to insert themselves back into the Big South Championship conversation this weekend with three bouts at Winthrop.
Altered slightly due to forecasted rain, the Blue Hose will begin the conference set tomorrow for a single game at 2:00 PM that has the potential to turn into a doubleheader should inclement weather cause a blockade.
Saturday's schedule is currently slated for a noon twinbill. ESPN+ will have coverage of the entire series, as both clubs try to stay in the hunt for a Big South postseason ticket.
The Eagles will host PC while tied for the number-three seed in the latest league standings. Presbyterian, at 3-9 in divisional play, will have some work to do in order to nab a top-five spot and thus gain access to the Big South bracket in May.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- Winners of 17 non-conference affairs and going on a six-game winning streak last month, Winthrop goes into the weekend with three consecutive Big South series losses after dropping two out of three to Radford in Virginia.
- The Eagles swept Longwood to start the conference journey and also bested Gardner-Webb twice, but have since gone only 3-9 combined against Charleston Southern, USC Upstate, and the Highlanders.
- Head coach Kendall Fuller is near the end of her second season with the program, advancing all the way to the Big South Championship Game last spring which followed a .500 mark in regular season league meetings.
- Winthrop holds the second-best team ERA in the conference (3.29), led by their ace Megan Powell who has thrown 132 innings along with 108 strikeouts.
LAST TIME OUT
- It's been well over a week since PC last took the field, taking a brief break from Big South territory in a split at North Carolina A&T.
- Punctuated by two late home runs from
Maddi Wood and
Mallory Fletcher, the Blue Hose put an eight-game losing skid to rest with a 6-3 victory in the first bout with the Bulldogs. A&T punched back in the second half of that doubleheader, earning a 5-1 decision.
- No player in the league possesses a better on-base percentage than senior first-baseman
Kendall Owens (.483), not to mention 15 doubles to rank inside the nation's top 25.
- True freshman
Baxleigh Arnette has the third-most stolen bases in the Big South (23) to compliment 94 assists at the shortstop position.
- The all-time series history between Presby and Winthrop is very tight (25-23 in favor of the Eagles). Head coach
David Williams' crew has beaten the Eagles in seven of their last nine tries, including an eighth-inning walk-off that clinched a series victory in Clinton last year.
