FARMVILLE, Va. – The Presbyterian College softball team's attempts to salvage Game Three against Longwood were unsuccessful in Sunday afternoon's Big South Conference series finale, able to score a 6
th inning run but dropping a 6-1 decision altogether.
The Lancers cracked a couple of 1
st-frame homers to position themselves in front where they'd stay for the rest of the contest, sending PC to a 19-19 record and a 3-6 mark against league foes.
A nine-game road swing will reach its end in just over 48 hours, with the Scotsmen facing Wofford in Spartanburg after walking off the Terriers in round one nearly three weeks ago.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Presby procured five hits after falling in consecutive games to Longwood on Saturday, finding a multi-hit outing by rookie
Audrey Burton and a double by senior
Kelby Goodrum.
- Starter
Peyton Duncan went four full innings in the last clash of the weekend, throwing 94 pitches and now sporting a 10-9 individual record.
- The home side drew up at least one run in four of the first five innings, earning their second sweep in as many tries after also winning three over Gardner-Webb. Longwood saw five home runs over the PC series, carried by catcher Brooke Bennett on Sunday who logged three hits and three RBI.
- Rightfielder
Mallory Fletcher was responsible for Presbyterian's lone run in the penultimate inning, scoring Burton with a ground out. That ties her with preseason All-Big South selection
Kasey Wolfe for the most RBI on the roster (24).
- Maggie Chapin threw the whole affair for Longwood as they published their sixth straight win, striking out eight.
UP NEXT
- The Blue Hose will aim to right the ship in two days with a shorter visit to Wofford, hoping for a similar result to last month's 2-1 drama in Clinton where they emerged victorious via walk-off.
- PC has met Wofford twice since the Terriers created their softball program in 2024, with both of those games having the exact same ending: a walk-off swing by Wolfe (who is a Spartanburg native and Dorman High School alum).
- Wofford has gone 7-5 since the loss to head coach
David Williams' club, sweeping Mercer by a combined margin of 15-6. Prior to that, they faced #6 South Carolina in Columbia and lost by two runs while shutting out the Gamecocks over the last six innings.
- Tuesday's tussle will be streamed live on ESPN+, slated for a 6:00 PM start.
