SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Presbyterian College softball team's follow-up game with Wofford on Tuesday evening wasn't as cheerful as last month after walking off the Terriers in round one, shut out in Spartanburg 4-0.
PC was unable to solve starting pitcher Abby Greenwood in the team's second-to-last non-conference matchup of the calendar, striking out nine times and registering one hit in the 1
st and 7
th innings.
The Blue Hose will aim to regroup this weekend in their first home appearance in over three weeks (their last home game was the win over Wofford in mid-March), hosting Gardner-Webb for a Big South doubleheader on Saturday and the finale less than 24 hours later.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Freshman shortstop
Baxleigh Arnette delivered a base hit in the game's first at-bat, although PC's offense grew colder as the game wore on and wouldn't gain another knock until senior
Mallory Fletcher did so in their last chance.
-
Peyton Duncan tossed the entire game to move her personal record to 10-10, facing 29 batters and keeping the Terriers off the board in four of six innings.
- Wofford offered up just one extra-base hit all day, opting for a methodical approach after Duncan struck out nine in the first meeting and limited them to a single run.
- The home side put up a pair of scores in the 1
st and 4
th, with two of those runs coming on a bases-loaded walk and RBI ground-out.
- PC now sits at 19-20 overall after battling their fourth opponent from the Southern Conference. Duncan forced Wofford into seven stranded runners, as neither side posted an error.
UP NEXT
- Sporting a 3-6 Big South mark with three league series on the horizon, the Blue Hose will try to get back in the win column against a Gardner-Webb foe that is just 1-8 themselves in conference competition.
- The Runnin' Bulldogs have twice been swept in '25 (losing all three to Longwood and Radford), although getting an uptick in confidence thanks to a couple of wins on Tuesday over ETSU.
- Each game in this weekend's series will be streamed live on ESPN+, with PC hoping to stop a five-game losing skid to G-W.
