ST. LOUIS, Mo. – No team in the Pioneer Football League displays more preseason All-Conference selections than the Presbyterian College football team, as head coach Steve Englehart goes into his fourth year at PC with an impressive six student-athletes on the list.
Announced on Tuesday afternoon by league officials, the Blue Hose have four offensive players on the preseason All-PFL lineup (quarterback
Collin Hurst, wide receivers
Dominic Kibby and
Cincere Gill, and return specialist
Zach Switzer), along with two other defensive names (
Carter Szydlowski and
Caleb Francis).
Englehart directed Presbyterian to a sensational late-season turnaround in 2024, going undefeated in the month of November for the first time in over two decades and ending the year on a four-game winning streak.
PC was rewarded for their reversal by hauling in seven All-PFL players last fall, with six of them on the First Team ballot. That confirmed the third instance in school history with at least six First-Teamers, joining the 2005 and 1979 teams who competed at the Division II level in the South Atlantic Conference.
The Scotsmen won their final four outings of 2024 by a combined 68 points, closing the book with a 30-27 thriller over 23
rd-ranked Butler at Bailey Memorial Stadium. That was Presby's first victory over a nationally-ranked opponent in 10 years.
Englehart's fourth season with the program starts on Saturday, August 30 when visiting Mercer in Georgia. PC's first home appearance of the 12-game schedule will be on September 13 against Erskine.
COLLIN HURST
Preseason All-PFL | Quarterback
R-So. | 5'10" | 165 lbs. | Davie, Fla.
2024 PFL Offensive Freshman of the Year
2024 FCS Freshman All-America
2024 Jerry Rice Award Top-Ten Finalist
Hurst will approach his second full season as PC's starter with a mountain of expectations created by an extraordinary freshman performance. The PFL Offensive Freshman of the Year, he became Englehart's third consecutive FCS Freshman All-American (following in the footsteps of
Mack Mikko and
Dominic Kibby before him).
Leading all QB's in the conference with a 154 pass efficiency rating, Hurst calculated over 2,300 passing yards last season and accounted for 22 total touchdowns. He completed 73 percent of his passes during PC's season-ending four-game winning streak.
Over a two-week stretch where the Blue Hose sprinted past Dayton and Marist, Hurst completed 43 out of 54 attempts. He exceeded 250 passing yards three times, including a career-high 358 yards at Davidson.
Hurst did not commit a single turnover during the last five games of the season. He will enter the '25 campaign with 135 consecutive passes thrown without an interception.
DOMINIC KIBBY
Preseason All-PFL | Wide Receiver
Sr. | 6'1" | 175 lbs. | Catonsville, Md.
Two-Time All-PFL First Team Recipient
Of the 33 individuals who are listed on the preseason All-PFL group, Kibby is the lone player that has two All-Conference First Team selections to his name. Through his first three seasons, the Blue Hose superstar has totaled 136 catches for 2,304 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns.
His 15
th career TD broke the school record across the Division I era (2007 onward), scoring on a 94-yard fade route against Stetson which is now PC's longest-ever passing play from scrimmage.
Kibby needs just 30 more receiving yards to become Presbyterian's all-time leader in the D-I era, posting at least 700 yards in each of his three seasons under Englehart's system.
The Maryland native has surpassed the century mark against seven different schools in his college career, logging a season-high eight catches in the Dayton win last fall.
CINCERE GILL
Preseason All-PFL | Wide Receiver
Sr. | 6'1" | 175 lbs. | Foxboro, Mass.
2024 All-PFL Second Team Recipient
With another season of eligibility still left, Gill ascended to another level in 2024 by computing 36 receptions for 573 yards and five touchdowns.
Averaging 16 yards per grab, Cincere published his best effort in a blowout over Marist by going for a sizzling 161 yards and two TD's on only four targets.
He notched a season-high eight catches versus eventual PFL regular season champion Drake, and would later be on the receiving end of a massive 4
th-and-9 conversion in the 3
rd quarter to help PC get in position for a tiebreaking touchdown and complete the upset of Butler.
ZACH SWITZER
Preseason All-PFL | Return Specialist
Sr. | 5'11" | 195 lbs. | Spring Hill, Tenn.
2024 All-PFL First Team Recipient
Few players in America at the FCS level were as dangerous of a threat to a team's kick-return defense as Switzer, leading the Blue Hose with 1,250 all-purpose yards and 673 yards in specials teams duties.
He returned seven kickoffs for at least 35 yards, including a 57-yard burst in the Marist win and a 90-yard house call in a road W over Erskine (the only player in the PFL all season to land a kick return touchdown).
Switzer averaged 27 yards per return in 25 attempts, going for 229 all-purpose yards in the aforementioned Erskine game and busting off an 81-yard carry against Drake.
Outside of his special teams expertise, the Tennesseean found 326 rushing yards and three extra TD's. He also logged 251 yards out of PC's passing attack.
CARTER SZYDLOWSKI
Preseason All-PFL | Defensive Line
Sr. | 6'3" | 260 lbs. | Mount Pleasant, Tenn.
2024 All-PFL First Team Recipient
Maneuvering his way into the backfield more than anyone else on the club thanks to 9.5 tackles for a loss, Szydlowski witnessed 38 total stops last fall and backed up the other team for 64 yards on those TFL's.
He plastered six sacks in his second full season with the Blue Hose, anchoring a PC defense that ranked inside the nation's top 20 by allowing just 114 rushing yards per contest.
Szydlowski made a large impact on the Butler victory, recovering a fourth-quarter fumble that thwarted the Bulldogs' hopes and also reaching a career-high nine tackles on the day.
CALEB FRANCIS
Preseason All-PFL | Defensive Back
Sr. | 6'2" | 195 lbs. | Jacksonville, Fla.
2024 All-PFL First Team Recipient
Only three interceptions away from becoming Presbyterian's Division I leader in that department, Francis has led the Blue Hose in picks for each of the last two years and grabbed three INT's last time out.
He led the Pioneer Football League with 10 pass breakups, ranking fourth on PC's roster with 50 tackles and collecting all of his interceptions in three straight conference matchups.
Against future league champion Drake, Francis posted a pick and a forced fumble in the opening half. He deflected five passes in Presby's season-ending four-game winning streak, scattering a personal-best seven tackles in the Dayton W.
Opposing quarterbacks could only gain a 119 efficiency rating against the Scotsmen's secondary, good enough to stand in the FCS top 25.
