ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The only road match of the entire month of August is on deck for the Presbyterian College women's soccer team, making a quick visit to South Carolina State on Sunday night. First touch against the Bulldogs is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
In what will be the first meeting of the year for S.C. State, the Blue Hose will aim for a second straight shutout after blanking The Citadel on Thursday night during a 0-0 tie.
Since losing the first-ever matchup against South Carolina State, PC has beaten their Palmetto opponent in each of their last five attempts. This includes a 4-1 beatdown at Martin Stadium last September, one of head coach
Matt Smith's 34 career victories over schools from the state of South Carolina in less than a decade.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
- There are plenty of unknowns for the 2025 version of S.C. State, a team that had their lone scrimmage canceled and has yet to play a regular season game to this point.
- A member of the MEAC for most programs but independent in women's soccer, the Bulldogs have won just three total matches since the start of the 2022 season. After a winless record in '23, their lone victory last fall came over USC-Beaufort where the game's only goal happened in the 75
th minute.
- Presby pounded S.C. State nearly 12 months ago in Clinton, finding two connections from Lina Müller and a couple other strikes by
Sloan Spees and then-senior
Gwen Keiser. PC out-shot the Bulldogs 28-7 on that night, not allowing any scores over the last 54 minutes.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Blue Hose pieced together a solid opening-day showing against The Citadel on Thursday, unable to account for the nil-nil tiebreaker but controlling possession for most of the contest and finding several near-misses at the net.
- Rookie keeper
Febe Dombrecht was sublime in her very first NCAA official match, saving 10 Citadel shots (eight in the second half) and beginning her college career with a 90-minute clean sheet.
- The Belgium native had PC's second-highest single-game save count of any freshman since the turn to Division I in 2007, helping the Scotsmen join USC Upstate and Longwood as the only three Big South clubs to pitch a shutout in the season-starter.
- Coach Smith elected for six seniors in the starting eleven, a group that figures to remain the same for the majority of the semester. Seven PC players surpassed 80 minutes.
