PC Drops Midweeker to Furman

CLINTON, S.C. – Four days after winning a 5-0 blowout against Alabama State as the non-conference portion of the schedule trudges on, the Presbyterian College women's soccer team was on the opposite end of that same score Thursday night as they fell to Furman.

PC was the victim of a four-goal second half by the Greenville visitors, turning a close 1-0 score after 45 minutes into a comfortable Furman victory.

The Blue Hose will throw Thursday's result in the bin and turn their attention to another Southern Conference adversary as Wofford comes to Martin Stadium this Sunday afternoon. First touch will take place at 1:00, streamed live on ESPN+.

FINAL SCORE: Furman, 5 – Presbyterian, 0
RECORDS: Furman (4-1) – Presbyterian (2-1-1)
LOCATION: Martin Stadium (Clinton, S.C.)

HOW IT HAPPENED

- PC entered the contest with their Palmetto rivals as the only unbeaten school left standing in the Big South. The Paladins' offense turned the tide, however, with a two-score effort by Maddie Massie and three other hits from Emma Sexton, Jaleah Simmons, and Bri Pinasco.

- Furman produced 20 shots on their way to a fourth consecutive win, the second time this month that they scored five times in a single match after doing the same to Bob Jones.

- Additionally, Furman has now shut out three straight opponents after also blanking Charleston Southern last weekend.

- The deficit doubled up to four points in the second period, following goals between the 63rd and 68th minutes. The Paladins connected on their fifth goal with nine seconds to go until the final horn.

UP NEXT

- Presby will aim for a more pleasant outcome in 72 hours when Wofford visits from Spartanburg, taking on a Terrier foe who just grabbed their first win of the season against Gardner-Webb 2-1.

- Wofford broke a one-all tie in the 72nd minute to end a four-game losing streak. Prior to Thursday, they had failed to score a single goal during a quartet of losses to USC Upstate, UNC Asheville, Navy, and Richmond (all by a 1-0 final count).

- The Matt Smith era at PC began with a 3-2 thriller over the Terriers 12 months ago, as Emilia Lieber smashed the game-winner at the 68:44 stamp. Presbyterian has defeated Wofford in three of their last four tries, dating back to 2017.
