ELON, N.C. – The Presbyterian College cross country runners broke school records in the Blue Hose's season-opening race at Friday Night Lights – Elon Opener on Friday evening.
In his first collegiate race, men's runner freshman
Jude Rutherford broke the school record in the 6K with a time of 19:53.6. The previous school record was 20:13, set in 2015 by Preston Meade.
In her first collegiate race, women's runner freshman
Lillian Anderson broke the school record in the 4K with a time of 15:37.8. The previous school record was 16:25, set in 2015 by Ripley Fricano. Senior
Isabel Whitman (15:51.6) and freshman
Katie Stevenson (16:21.6) broke the previous school record as well.
NOTABLES
Rounding out the men's runners were
Noah Kaufman (20:30.5),
Jacob Smith (20:32.3),
Sam Gearheart (20:38.0),
David Harner (21:23.5),
Robert Volk (22:16.1), and
Henry Hunt (22:25.0). Kaufman, Smith, Gearheart, Harner and Volk posted times that rank among the Top 10 fastest times in the 6K in the program's DI era.
The rest of the Blue Hose women's runners were
Abby Donaldson (16:35.3),
Alexis Yeung (17:19.6),
Eliana Watson (17:20.7),
Summer Covey (17:28.6),
Sarah Danbury (18:35.0), and
Savannah Watson (19:09.7). They all ran times that rank among the program's Top 10 fastest times in the 4K.
