Volleyball Shows Fight on Opening Day at Georgia State Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team opened its 2025 season on Friday at the Georgia State Invitational, falling 3-0 to the host Panthers before battling Furman in a four-set contest later in the evening.
 
In the team's first outing, Julia Yurkovich paced the Blue Hose offense with nine kills while hitting at a .286 rate. Newcomer Anisa Dorlouis made an impact in her debut with 17 assists, six kills, eight digs, and two blocks.
 
Against Furman, Ashley Miller powered the attack with a 19-kill, 15-dig double-double, while Dorlouis and Celimar Hoyos also recorded double-doubles in a competitive four-set match.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GEORGIA STATE
Set One | Presbyterian battled early to a 3-3 tie, but Georgia State responded with a 9-3 run to take control. Back-to-back blocks from Brittney Daphnis slowed the Panthers briefly, and the Blue Hose saw kills from Miller and Yurkovich, but GSU pulled away to take the opener 25-15.
 
Set Two | The second set was tightly contested with 13 ties and six lead changes. PC grabbed a 7-5 lead behind a Miller kill and later surged ahead 13-12 after points from Courtney Williams, Miller, and an Aubrie Arnold ace. Georgia State countered with a 4-0 run and held off late kills from Daphnis to edge the Blue Hose 25-23.
 
Set Three | Georgia State built an 8-3 lead before Miller ended the run with a kill. PC fought back as Yurkovich, Daphnis, and Dorlouis chipped in kills to cut the margin to 10-9. Dorlouis added another point at the net, but the Panthers used a 6-0 stretch to regain control and closed out the match 25-17.
 
NOTABLES – GEORGIA STATE
- The Blue Hose out-blocked Georgia State 4-2.
- Yurkovich led the team with nine kills and a .286 hitting percentage.
- Dorlouis posted 17 assists, six kills, eight digs, and two blocks in her PC debut.
- Miller added six kills and five digs.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED - FURMAN
Set One | Furman grabbed an early 8-3 lead, but PC responded with kills from Miller and Yurkovich along with a pair of service aces from Amaris Alvarez to tie the set at 19-19. A Daphnis kill pushed PC ahead 20-19, and the Blue Hose led 23-20 before Furman rallied late to take the set 26-24.
 
Set Two | The Blue Hose raced out to an 8-0 lead behind three Miller kills and never trailed. Furman cut the deficit to 18-12, but PC maintained control and closed out the frame 25-21 to even the match.
 
Set Three | Back-and-forth play saw eight ties, including 14-14, before PC went on a 3-0 run fueled by Miller and Williams. Furman answered, closing out the set on a nine-point surge to win 25-18.
 
Set Four | Furman used an early 5-2 stretch to go up 12-5 and never looked back, finishing the set 25-18 to clinch the match.
 
NOTABLES - FURMAN
- Miller finished with her first double-double of the season with 19 kills and 15 digs.
- Yurkovich tallied 10 kills while hitting .250 and adding three blocks.
- Dorlouis notched her first double-double in blue and garnet with 31 assists and 21 digs.
- Hoyos also grabbed a double-double, recording 16 digs and 10 assists.
- Daphnis contributed eight kills and three blocks.
