Gardner-Webb Hits in 79th Minute to Down PC

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – A spirited offensive effort by the Presbyterian College women's soccer team would unfortunately end with a 1-0 setback to Gardner-Webb on Wednesday night.

In their first road trip of Big South territory, the Blue Hose kept a solid amount of pressure on G-W's defensive front but were unable to provide the equalizer after the Runnin' Bulldogs scored the lone goal of the match at 78:20.

The loss moves Presby to 3-6-1 on the campaign, collecting 10 corner kicks in the midweek meeting while also saving 10 Gardner-Webb shots.

Head coach Matt Smith's crew will return to the field in seven days to continue the conference journey, welcoming UNC Asheville for a 7:00 start next Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Seven separate PC players produced at least one shot-on-goal as both sides searched for their first Big South win, with the Scotsmen outshooting G-W in the first 45 minutes by a 9-5 clip.

- One of Presbyterian's best chances to break through came in the 74th minute, a low-angled attempt by Allie Williams that rebounded off the left post.

- Five minutes later, the Runnin' Bulldogs would break the scoreless tie and leave the Blue Hose playing catch-up over the closing stretch.

- PC spread out three corner kick opportunities in the final eight minutes to try and even the score, with their last effort at 85:08 getting pinballed around before settling in Gardner-Webb's possession.

- Rookie keeper Febe Dombrecht matched a career-high with 10 stoppages (seven in the second period), tying her debut performance against The Citadel that helped her gain Big South Freshman of the Week plaudits.

UP NEXT

- ESPN+ will have live coverage of the event.
