#25 Blue Hose Welcome Morehead State in First PFL Matchup

CLINTON, S.C. – The 2025 PFL schedule begins tomorrow afternoon for the 25th-ranked Presbyterian College football team, one of the hottest groups in the country who will be pushing to extend their Division-I-best winning streak to nine games.

Standing in their way are the Morehead State Eagles, primed for a 1:00 kickoff on ESPN+.

Opening the eight-game league slate with a familiar foe whom they've had several close calls with since becoming annual opponents in the spring of 2021, the Blue Hose will hunt for a fifth consecutive home victory and remain perfect overall in game five.

Saturday's showdown is a "Blackout" promotion, with PC donning their black and blue uniform combination that was unveiled last fall. This will be the second time this season that Presby has worn the black threads, sporting the same combo in a 42-14 win over Erskine.

OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION

• Continuing their red-hot start to 2025 with an offensive performance that nears the best in their century-plus history, PC pulverized Bluefield last weekend to get to 4-0 for the first time in 66 years.

• After only two quarters, the Blue Hose had already discharged 57 points, close to 450 total yards, eight touchdowns, and an average of 12 yards per snap. They would defeat the Rams by a final count of 76-3, playing the last two quarters in shortened 12-minute stints.

• Those 76 points are the third-most in a single game that Presbyterian has ever produced, trailing only an 84-point effort back in 2021 and the all-time record 104 points prior to the 1920's.

• Reigning Pioneer Football League Offensive Freshman of the Year Collin Hurst picked apart Bluefield on a day where he set a new personal record with 83 percent accuracy (15-of-18). He tossed four touchdown passes and added a 26-yard rushing score for good measure.

FIRST-TIME RANKING

 • While still yet to crack the AFCA Coaches Poll (getting more votes than any other school that's not in the Top 25), PC was indeed included in the FCS Stats Perform rankings on Monday afternoon.

• Labeled the #25 team in America, the Scotsmen are now a nationally-ranked program for the first time in their NCAA Division I history (dating back to 2007).

• PC's selection is the first time that Stats Perform has named any team from the PFL in their Top 25 since 2018. As things currently stand, Presby is a single vote away from the #24 spot (closely behind Youngstown State).

EIGHT STRAIGHT = BEST IN THE COUNTRY

• Moving their overall winning streak to eight games last weekend (and scoring an average of 40 points along the way), PC has now tied one other FCS school and one FBS institution for the title of longest active winning streak in Division I college football.

• Of the 265 programs who compete in D-I, only Tennessee Tech and the Memphis Tigers have matched PC's ongoing eight-game winning streak.

• Defending national champions North Dakota State and Ohio State were at the same number as Presbyterian last Saturday, but fell a game behind due to being in their BYE week.

• While the Blue Hose tangle with Morehead State, TTU will go up against Tennessee State and Memphis travels to Florida Atlantic.

• Not only is PC's eight-game winning streak on the line, but so too is the opportunity for Coach Englehart's squad to win their fifth consecutive home game for the first time since 2012.

PRIDE OF THE PALMETTO

• There are no other Division I schools in the entire state of South Carolina that can boast an undefeated record at this stage of the season.

• Clemson, South Carolina, Coastal Carolina, Furman, Wofford, and Charleston Southern have each taken at least one L already, positioning PC as the lone Palmetto party that is still perfect.

• Going beyond the D-I level, the only other South Carolina college without a blemish is Division II member Benedict out of Columbia. They'll visit Clark Atlanta this weekend as PC hopes to become the last unbeaten standing.

ONE OF FIFTEEN FLAWLESS

• Interestingly, the number of undefeated FCS teams grew instead of shrunk last Saturday due to the Ivy League's delay in getting their season underway.

• Below is a list of the other 14 unbeatens around the nation, and who they will face this weekend:

(Rankings reflect AFCA Coaches Poll)

- #1 North Dakota State (vs #18 South Dakota)

- #2 South Dakota State (vs Mercyhurst)

- #3 Tarleton State (BYE)

- #4 Montana (vs #10 Idaho)

- #7 Rhode Island (@ Western Michigan)

- #9 Lehigh (vs Penn)

- #11 Tennessee Tech (@ Tennessee State)

- #20 West Georgia (@ Southern Utah)

- Brown (@ Harvard)

- Dartmouth (vs Central Connecticut State)

- Harvard (vs Brown)

- Penn (@ #9 Lehigh)

- UT-Rio Grande Valley (@ Southeast Louisiana)

- Yale (vs Cornell)

OPPONENT PROFILE

• Coming in third place in the PFL standings a year ago, Morehead State will visit Clinton with an even 2-2 mark as the conference schedule gets ramped up.

• This is the first time in Morehead history that they're made to play three Top-25 opponents in a single season, having already clashed with #7 Illinois State and #22 Austin Peay.

• MSU vented out some frustration in their last contest opposite Kentucky Christian, earning a 45-28 win and eclipsing 600 offensive yards for the first time since 2017.

• Veteran quarterback Carter Cravens is on the brink of 4,700 career passing yards, accounting for 30 touchdowns after tossing four scores last weekend.

• Morehead's Ryan Upp is one of the most dynamic pass-catchers in the PFL, reaching over 1,700 career receiving yards and 16 touchdowns.

• PC and the Eagles have been involved in some dramatic finishes during Coach Englehart's tenure, with the final margin settling less than 10 points in each of the last four occasions that these two schools have met.

• Morehead squeezed out a 14-7 decision in Kentucky last October, but were defeated by the Blue Hose when they last came to Bailey Memorial Stadium (31-27 in the 2023 finale).

CREAM OF THE CROP

• Through the first four games of 2025, the Blue Hose lead the PFL and are near the top of numerous statistical categories nationwide:

(Rankings encapsulate all 129 FCS football teams)

- T-3rd in Interceptions (6)

- 5th in Third-Down Defense (25%)

- 6th in Total Yards Per Game (494)

- 6th in Total First Downs (100)

- 7th in Passing Yards Per Game (308)

- 7th in Fewest Rushing Yards Allowed Per Game (80)

- 7th in Fewest Total Yards Allowed Per Game (239)

- 8th in Points Per Game (43)

- 14th in Fewest Points Allowed Per Game (16)

- T-19th in Fewest First Downs Allowed (55)

- 19th in Third-Down Offense (46%)

- 20th in Fewest Passing Yards Allowed Per Game (158)

• Additionally, Presbyterian is the only FCS team to have eight different players with at least one touchdown reception this year (Cincere Gill, Nathan Levicki, Zach Switzer, BJ Atkins, Deverious Abercrombie, Jalen Patrick, Chris Vickerson, & Garrison Curry).

FRANCIS TIES THE RECORD

• Senior defensive back Caleb Francis lacks just one interception to become Presbyterian's new D-I-era leader in career picks, snagging his 7th during the Bluefield blowout.

• The only other Blue Hose who posted seven INT's during their PC careers were Ed Britt (2012-15) and Big South Hall of Famer Justin Bethel (2008-11).
