Blue Hose Claim 5th Place at NWCA National Duals

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Presbyterian College women's wrestling team polished off a 4-1 record at the NWCA National Duals tournament for the second consecutive year, coming in 5th place at the 16-team double-elimination bracket on Saturday afternoon.

After a rally in the consolation round less than 24 hours earlier against Southeast Region rival King, the Blue Hose bettered two more ranked schools back-to-back by outlasting seven-seed Colorado Mesa 25-20 and picking up another W over #23 Lindenwood 27-20.

The Scotsmen – who came into the tourney as the #6 seed – have now defeated seven top-25 programs in less than a month. They've won 12 of their last 13 duals overall and managed to win three straight contests this weekend by single-digits.

PC took down three ranked wrestlers on Saturday as they are now a combined 4-0 this season versus Colorado Mesa and Lindenwood. They beat CMU in December at the Desert Duals by two points and would once again edge out the Mavericks thanks to a match-starting 15-0 sprint.

Head coach Brian Vutiainitis will take his club back to Clinton next weekend for more dual play, hosting Allen and McMurry at 2:00 on January 18. The tri-dual will be streamed on ESPN+.

NOTABLES

- After going 3-0 yesterday, sophomore Chloe Dearwester stayed red-hot with two more pins while wrestling up to the 117-lb. class (she currently ranks third in the 110 group). The Cincinnati native now sports a 17-1 record this season.

- Another sensational sophomore on Presby's roster, Kassey Daugherty has officially brought her personal winning streak up to 20 matches with a 10-0 technical in the Lindenwood win.

- Two-time All-American Maddie Kubicki needed just 93 seconds to grab another pin as PC swept the Lions, her 10th win in a row at the NWCA National Duals which dates back to January of 2024.

- Presbyterian began the Colorado Mesa rematch with three straight falls by Dearwester, Annalise Maralit, and Sloane Kruger, the latter of which beat ninth-ranked Adriana Gomez as a true freshman in just over three minutes.

- PC is now 7-1 all-time against Lindenwood and Colorado Mesa. They found a late 13-5 run to gain crucial separation in the win over Lindenwood, including a 4-2 decision by rookie Elizabeth Donovan opposite 19th-ranked Madeline Haynes.

- The Blue Hose are now 14-6 at this tournament since their first appearance back in 2023, making another step in the right direction for a national championship push in just under two months.
