GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team (0-2) closed out the weekend with a 5-2 loss to Austin Peay on Sunday morning (Jan. 18) at the Mickel Tennis Center.
The Governors won the doubles point and recorded singles victories on courts three through six. Ladina Bruhin and Roxy Valdes logged the points for the Blue Hose with singles wins on the top two courts.
Austin Peay began the match with a 6-1 win on doubles court two. Bruhin and Valdes were up 5-4 on the top doubles court before the Governors secured the doubles point with a 6-3 victory on court three.
In singles, the Governors extended their lead with a straight-set win on court three. Shortly after, Bruhin got the Blue Hose on the board, picking up her second straight win to open the dual match season. She defeated Sophia Baranov in
straight-sets 7-5, 7-5.
Austin Peay responded with singles victories on courts four, five, and six to clinch the win. Grace Katzman took her first set on court 6-4 before falling in a tight three-setter.
Valdes picked up the other point for Presbyterian in the match, taking down Luca Bohlen in three sets on court two to grab her first win of the spring season. Valdes dropped the opening set 6-1 but rallied to take the second set in a tiebreak, forcing a deciding set. In the third, Valdes emerged victorious in a close match, winning 1-6, 7-6 (0), 7-5.
