CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team (1-2) picked up its first win of the season on Friday (Jan. 30), taking down Belmont Abbey 4-3 on the Templeton Center Tennis Courts.
The Blue Hose had only five players available against the Crusaders. Grace Katzman and Mary Ellen Longmire posted a 6-1 victory for PC on doubles court two to open the match. Ladina Bruhin and Roxy Valdes followed with a 6-1 win on the top doubles court to clinch the doubles point and give Presbyterian an early 1-0 lead.
Belmont Abbey tied the match via forfeit on singles court six. Bruhin continued her dominant start to the year with a 6-2, 6-1 victory on the top court to put PC up 2-1.
Katzman extended the Blue Hose lead shortly after, logging a straight-set 6-2, 6-2 victory on court three. The Crusaders stayed in the match with a win on court four before Longmire clinched the victory for the Blue Hose. She posted a 6-4, 6-3 win on court five to secure the win for PC.
Belmont Abbey completed the match with a three-set win on court two.
