Rahl Hires New Defensive Line Coach Juwan Moye

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College football staff gained its seventh new member on Thursday afternoon as newly-minted Head Coach Matt Rahl assigned Juwan Moye to direct the Blue Hose defensive line.

Moye was an All-League lineman at nearby Newberry College, aiding two South Atlantic Conference Championships as a player. He remained with the Wolves on the coaching staff for the past three seasons, helping take Newberry to the Division II National Semifinals in December.

"I am very excited to add Coach Moye to our staff", commented Rahl, who was named the 18th Head Coach in PC history less than a month ago. "He brings great enthusiasm to our program and a proven track record of developing defensive linemen.

"Coach Moye also brings huge value to our staff due to his recruiting skill around the South Carolina and Georgia areas."

Newberry won a total of 43 games over the six seasons that Moye was a player and coach. This will be his first opportunity to coach at a Division I institution, serving a program that achieved its third-ever 10-win season last year.

Coach at Newberry (2023-25)

- Once his accomplished playing career was in the books, Moye transitioned to the coaching role and directed Newberry's defensive line in 2023, tight ends in 2024, and then returned to the defensive front last fall.

- The 2025 Wolves engineered a historic turnaround from a three-win season the previous year, posting a 12-2 overall record and claiming their third SAC Championship within a five-year window.

- Newberry won their last seven regular-season games and edged out Carson-Newman 28-21 in the conference title game. That gave them an automatic bid to the D-II Playoffs and they'd advance all the way to the Final Four.

- Moye's Wolves defeated Kentucky State, West Florida, and top regional seed Albany State to make it to the National Semifinals for the first time ever.

- On their way to the SAC crown and Final Four berth, Newberry led all teams in the conference with 13 interceptions and eight fumble recoveries. Moye mentored D-Lineman Jaydon Eason to All-SAC second team status.

- In 2024, the Wolves featured another All-Conference selection under Moye's watch: Colby Taylor, who led the roster with 14.5 tackles-for-a-loss and seven sacks.

- Moye had a strong start to his coaching career in 2023, teaching a Newberry defense that ranked second in the nation by allowing a successful 4th-down conversion just 20 percent of the time.

- That year, the Wolves finished in the SAC's top three for fewest passing yards allowed per game (178). They were victorious over Emory & Henry in eight overtimes (25-23), setting a new Division II record for the longest game in history.

- Devante Gambrell was an All-SAC pick under Moye's tutelage, going for 34 tackles and 1.5 sacks.

Player at Newberry (2020-22)

- A native of Georgia, Moye committed to Newberry and was a part of 19 combined wins in his last two seasons of eligibility. The Wolves went 24-6 in the three years that he was on the roster, snatching back-to-back SAC Championships.

- Moye was a two-time team captain and was voted All-SAC Second Team in his final season (2022). In his Newberry career, he totaled 49 tackles in 21 appearances, 6.5 TFL's, three sacks, two pass breakups, one fumble recovery, and one blocked kick.

- The Wolves earned a 14-3 conference record in Moye's final two seasons, defeating Mars Hill in the inaugural SAC Championship Game as a senior (27-24).

- The 2021 squad reached 10 wins and achieved their first league title in five years, qualifying for the D-II playoffs thanks to seven straight W's and ultimately ending their run in the second round.

- Prior to Newberry, Moye also played for the Virginia Cavaliers and spent time with James Madison as well. In two years at UVA under Head Coach Bronco Mendenhall, he charted 21 tackles in 22 games.

- Moye contributed to a six-win season at UVA in 2017, a year where the Cavaliers won three ACC bouts against Duke, North Carolina, and Georgia Tech on their way to the Military Bowl.
