PC Faces Belmont Abbey in Home Opener on Friday

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team (0-2) will play its first home match of the season against Belmont Abbey (0-0) on Friday (Jan. 30) at 2:00 p.m. on the Templeton Center Tennis Courts.

BLUE HOSE NOTES
- Presbyterian will play its first match in 12 days. The Blue Hose opened their 2026 campaign with two defeats in Greenville to Furman on Jan. 17 and Austin Peay on Jan. 18. Furman defeated PC 6-1, while the Governors won 5-2.

- PC was scheduled to face Lander and Converse in a doubleheader last weekend, but both matches were postponed due to inclement weather. The Blue Hose will now face Lander on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 2:00 p.m. in Clinton. The Converse match will not be rescheduled.

- Ladina Bruhin nabbed Big South Freshman of the Week honors on Jan. 20 after picking up her first collegiate dual match victories. She went 2-0 in singles playing on the top court against the Paladins and Governors. Against Furman, she rallied to record a come-from-behind victory over Elle Warren (2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6)). She closed out the weekend against Austin Peay with a straight-set 7-5, 7-5 win over Sophia Baranov.

- Roxy Valdes picked up Presbyterian's other point against Austin Peay, rallying to take down Luca Bohlen 1-6, 7-6 (7-0), 7-5 on court two.

 


A CLOSER LOOK AT THE BLUE HOSE
The Blue Hose return four from last season to this year's squad. McKenzie Davis, Mary Ellen Longmire, Sofia Rodrigo Hidalgo, and Elle Sceney are all back for Presbyterian. Five newcomers join PC this season as well. Katherine Bauer, Ladina Bruhin, Luciana Parrilli, and Roxy Valdes highlight the Blue Hose freshmen class. Finally, sophomore transfer Grace Katzman comes to the Blue Hose from North Greenville University.

 


FALL BIG SOUTH DOUBLES CHAMPIONS
McKenzie Davis and Ladina Bruhin won the second-ever edition of the Big South Fall Doubles Championship as the No. 3 seed in October. The pair picked up three wins in the tournament to claim the title, clinching the championship with an 8-4 win in the final over the No. 5 seed Marina Skegro and Carlota Farres of Charleston Southern. The duo earned automatic entry into the ITA Conference Masters Championships in San Diego by way of their victory, where they reached the round of 16.

 


SPRING SCHEDULE
Head coach Joel Roberts enters his seventh season at the helm of the Blue Hose women's tennis program. PC will play in 22 dual matches this spring, hosting 13 matches in Clinton at the Templeton Center Tennis Courts. In the Big South, the Blue Hose will host Longwood on March 8, Gardner-Webb on March 19, and Charleston Southern on March 25.

 


SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS
- Presbyterian controls the all-time series with Belmont Abbey, winning four out of the five all-time meetings. 

- The Blue Hose won the first four matches before the Crusaders topped PC 4-3 last season in Charlotte.

- This will be the first dual match of 2026 for Belmont Abbey. Last year, the Crusaders went 16-18, reaching the semifinals of the Conference Carolinas Tournament.

The Blue Hose continues their homestand on Tuesday (Feb. 3), taking on Lander in a rescheduled match at 2:00 p.m. on the Templeton Center Tennis Courts.
