ROCK HILL, S.C. – Just four matches remain in the 2026 season for the Presbyterian College women's soccer team, readying themselves for another Big South road trip to Winthrop on Wednesday night. First touch is scheduled for 6:00 and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Both parties are pursuing their first conference win of the year after four misfires, with PC recently dropping a 2-0 decision to Charleston Southern and the Eagles losing a 5-1 contest to USC Upstate.
Presby and Winthrop have played to a draw in back-to-back seasons, with last year's encounter featuring four goals in the first 60 minutes before settling at two apiece.
The top six teams in the Big South standings at the end of the month will advance to the postseason, marking an important midweek matchup between in-state adversaries.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- Longtime head coach Spencer Smith has faced a rough patch in Big South territory this year, being outscored by a combined margin of 14-2 in the first half of the league schedule.
- The Eagles and the Blue Hose share a non-conference victory over South Carolina State (Winthrop's performance was 3-0 in that game), while Winthrop also owns two more shutouts against VMI and Queens.
- Freshman goalkeeper Mia Ruffalo is responsible for each of those clean sheets, playing every second of the season up to this point.
- Winthrop ranks last in the Big South in terms of offensive production (13 total goals in 13 matches), aiming to steer the ship in the right direction after Upstate and Longwood each scored five times against them.
LAST TIME OUT
- Following a 4-2 triumph over S.C. State at Martin Stadium, Presbyterian returned to league business versus Charleston Southern in a match that was moved up 18 hours due to weather concerns.
- CSU secured a 2-0 win on a night where PC registered just one shot-on-goal, breaking the ice in the 42
nd minute and hitting again at 62:01.
- Senior defenseman
Lyla Chadd played the full 90 minutes for the 53
rd time in her career, continuing her 61-match streak of never missing a collegiate game.
SMITH SEEKS HISTORY
- Thanks to her second brace of the semester in the win over South Carolina State, sophomore
Maddie Smith has tied for the second-most goals in a single year of any PC player since the transition to Division I in the late 2000's.
- She has now connected on seven goals (third in the Big South), which is just one behind the Blue Hose D-I record that was set by Tori Lopez back in 2013.
- The Pennsylvania native has scored once in a league setting (the opener at UNC Asheville).
Maddi Merryweather's five points is second on the roster, having scored in two straight conference matches against Gardner-Webb and USC Upstate.
