PC Plays Penultimate Home Match Against Longwood

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's soccer team hopes to make a late-season push for the upcoming Big South Conference tournament with three matches left in the 2026 slate, getting to play their next two at Martin Stadium.

PC welcomes Longwood to Clinton this Saturday for a 1:00 start, with ESPN+ providing live coverage. The Blue Hose will try to move up into the league's top six in time for the postseason, aiming for their third win at home this fall.

The Lancers managed to defeat Presby last season in Virginia, hitting the game's lone goal in the 84th minute. That avenged PC's victory over Longwood in the 2024 Big South Quarterfinals which was a penalty kick shootout.

SCOUTING THE LANCERS

- Longwood has quietly been climbing the conference ladder this season, currently tied for third in the Big South standings thanks to three straight clean sheets against Winthrop, Charleston Southern, and UNC Asheville.

- They outscored those opponents by a 7-0 clip, although head coach Todd Dyer's club was blanked themselves by Radford in their most recent appearance.

- On pace to be a top-four team in the conference tourney despite having no players in the Big South top ten for goals scored, the Lancers possess a consistent attack with 10 different individuals who have at least one goal.

- Freshman keeper Brynn Clagett has been Longwood's MVP as of late, leading all players at her position in the league with a goals-against average of 0.80.

LAST TIME OUT

- Presbyterian conceded three second-half goals earlier this week in a 4-0 setback at Winthrop, unable to get any of their six on-target attempts to the back of the net.

- The Eagles struck first just before the break with a free kick outside the box, adding to the lead on a PK in the 61st minute and snowballing from there.

- Senior defenseman Lyla Chadd continued her 62-match playing streak in Rock Hill, logging the full 90 minutes for the 54th time in her exceptional career.

SMITH SEEKS HISTORY

- Thanks to her second brace of the semester in a 4-2 win over South Carolina State, sophomore Maddie Smith has tied for the second-most goals in a single year of any PC player since the transition to Division I in the late 2000's.

- She has now connected on seven goals (third in the Big South), which is just one behind the Blue Hose D-I record that was set by Tori Lopez back in 2013.

- The Pennsylvania native has scored once in a league setting (the opener at UNC Asheville). Maddi Merryweather's five points is second on the roster, having scored in two straight conference matches against Gardner-Webb and USC Upstate.
