SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
- It hasn't been an auspicious season for South Carolina State and third-year head coach Andrew Richardson, currently winless in 12 appearances and being outscored by a grand total of 42-2.
- Not a member of any conference in women's soccer, the Bulldogs were shut out in each of their first six matches until finally breaking the ice in a loss to Queens last month.
- Since playing Jacksonville to a nil-nil tie on September 9, S.C. State has been outscored by eight points. That includes a 2-1 loss to Southern Wesleyan and a 1-0 heartbreaker against Hampton where the game-winning goal came with five seconds on the clock.
- South Carolina State has won just five times in the past four-and-a-half seasons, currently on a 16-match road losing streak.
LAST TIME OUT
- No team in the Big South has been given a tougher hand than the Blue Hose so far, playing each of the top three teams in the current standings. They were bested by USC Upstate in Spartanburg 4-1, although they did keep their rival off the board for the entire second half.
- Sophomore
Maddi Merryweather created her third career goal against a conference opponent soon after intermission, trailing only
Maddie Smith for the most total points on the roster (who has 10).
-
Alexa Garcia returned to the field after missing the previous match against Gardner-Webb, playing the full 90 minutes (along with four others) and making four saves.
- Wednesday figures to be a milestone for senior defenseman
Lyla Chadd, who will make her 60
th career appearance in the Blue Hose kit. She has played 5,267 out of a possible 5,330 minutes, missing just one start in four seasons.
- After a 4-1 sprint against S.C. State two years ago, Presby eked out a 2-1 victory over the Bulldogs in Orangeburg last season. Current senior
Emma Brown drilled the game-winner in the 87
th minute.
