Women’s Soccer Remains at Home to Face Charleston Southern

CLINTON, S.C. – A very important Big South Conference scrap awaits the Presbyterian College women's soccer team tomorrow, welcoming Charleston Southern to Martin Stadium. Originally scheduled for a noon start on Saturday, the match has now been moved to Friday at 6:00 PM due to expected inclement weather.

PC hopes to continue their momentum from a 4-2 victory over South Carolina State earlier this week, now in search of their first league win with five bouts still ahead of them.

Friday figures to be an intriguing Big South affair, with the Buccaneers also looking to climb up the ladder following three straight one-point losses.

CSU has managed to evade the Blue Hose in each of their last four meetings, getting the better of Presby 3-1 in the 2025 finale.

SCOUTING THE BUCCANEERS

- Currently in seventh-place when taking a gander at the Big South standings, Charleston Southern has faced some tough luck after a 2-0 shutout over Winthrop last month.

- The Bucs gave USC Upstate a challenging game two weeks ago, as the Spartans needed to score in the 82nd minute to prevent a tie in Charleston. Upstate is one of two conference schools who are 4-0 at the moment along with UNC Asheville.

- On the last weekend of September, Charleston Southern and Gardner-Webb had a hectic start that included two goals in the first 10 minutes. G-W would eventually hit the game-winner at 82:04, despite CSU out-shooting them by five.

- The theme of narrow losses continued for the Bucs in a 1-0 duel at Longwood, with the only score happening in the 16th minute.

- Redshirt-sophomore midfielder Danika Birch leads CSU in the points department (four goals, one assist) while Avery Mason has earned the lion's share of minutes at the keeper's spot.

LAST TIME OUT

- Presbyterian logged their best offensive performance since August of last year in the sprint against S.C. State, churning out 26 total shots and 14 corner kick opportunities.

- Maddie Smith kept up her fine campaign with two makes in the opening half, advancing up the Big South totem pole where she is now the third-highest-scoring player in the entire league (seven goals).

- Freshman Katy Verdery also entered the scoring column with a 39th-minute header, and PC's productive night was punctuated by a late snipe for Anna Hussey at 78:34.

- Head coach Matt Smith's club had three points at intermission for the first time since beating Alabama State 5-0 last year. They have scored at least once in five straight matches.

BEST OF THE DECADE

- By reaching her second brace of the season in the win over South Carolina State, Smith has now tied Morgan Hutchison (2019) for the second-most goals in a single season by any PC player since turning Division I in the late 2000's.

- The Pennsylvania native needs just two more goals to break the record (8) that was set by Tori Lopez in 2013. Thus far, she has scored once in Big South competition (the league opener at UNC Asheville).

CHADD HITS SIXTY

- Tuesday was a milestone moment for senior defenseman Lyla Chadd, playing in her 60th collegiate game. She has never missed an opportunity to suit up, starting all but one of those 60 games.

- Chadd has been on the field for 5,357 out of a possible 5,420 minutes since she arrived on Presbyterian's campus. That is the equivalent of 98 percent from 2023 to the present day.

- The Charlotte native has played the full 90 minutes on 52 different occasions, with the S.C. State victory being the latest instance.
