Softball Hosts Second Tournament, Planning Five Games

CLINTON, S.C. – It's shaping up to be another busy weekend for the Presbyterian College softball team, serving as the hosting party for a multi-team tournament versus Mercyhurst, ETSU, and UAlbany. This is the midway stretch of the program's 10-game homestand to begin the 2026 slate.

PC is scheduled to play twice on Friday and Saturday, aiming to start at approximately 2:30 on both days and battling Mercyhurst each time. Weather permitting, they'll play a second contest with ETSU on Sunday at 12:15.

Overall, the Blue Hose are lined up for five games this weekend after beginning the campaign with a 2-2 mark and a couple of one-run wins over Le Moyne and Morehead State.

Interestingly, all three visitors this weekend have not yet played any games in 2026. PC is the only group in that mix that can say otherwise.

SCOUTING MERCYHURST

- The second institution from the Northeast Conference to cross paths with Presbyterian this year (Le Moyne being the other), Mercyhurst enters their second season as a Division I member and hopes for a better outcome than last year's 5-33 record.

- Leanne Baker will start her 13th season as the head coach of the Lakers tomorrow, looking to improve on a 2-25 mark when playing away from home last spring. They were picked eighth out of nine teams in the preseason NEC Coaches Poll.

- Since Mercyhurst is still very new to the D-I level, Friday will be the first-ever meeting between PC and their visitors from Pennsylvania.

SCOUTING ETSU

- In contrast to the Lakers, ETSU is an opponent that is very familiar with the Blue Hose due to their close proximity in Tennessee. The Bucs have played Presby 13 times dating all the way back to 2008.

- After playing to an unorthodox 9-9 tie in David Williams' first season at PC (a game that was called off due to darkness), the Scotsmen have won three straight over the Buccaneers which includes a 4-2 decision last February.

- ETSU won 18 games in 2025 and went 6-15 in Southern Conference territory. They qualified for the SoCon Tournament and edged out Western Carolina in their first game there, but then lost back-to-back against Samford and Mercer.

- Head coach Cheryl Milligan's crew was voted seventh out of eight in the preseason league poll. Then-junior Peyton Duncan tossed a complete game in the win over ETSU nearly 365 days ago, allowing just three hits and two walks.

SCOUTING UALBANY

- The only school that PC is scheduled to play just once, UAlbany makes the trip south from New York after logging a 20-26 record last season. They went 9-8 in the America East, winning one before dropping two straight in the league bracket.

- Picked to place fourth in the six-team league, the Great Danes are led by head coach Chris Cannata who has been with the program since 1995 and will start her 32nd season tomorrow.

- Outfielder Taylor Quinn was named to the preseason All-America East team, batting .324 with eight extra-base swings and 25 RBI as a sophomore last year.

- The only other time that Presbyterian faced UAlbany was a full decade ago, meeting on a neutral field in Jacksonville where PC erased a six-run deficit and won by an 11-10 difference thanks to a grand slam.

LAST TIME OUT

- Presby balanced out a couple of close losses to Western Michigan and Dayton by getting their first two wins of 2026 by respective scores of 2-1 and 3-2.

- Senior ace Peyton Duncan was named the Big South Pitcher of the Week after holding Le Moyne to just one hit in four innings and retiring her first 12 batters, while transfer Kylie Rast tossed the full seven in the victory over Morehead.

- Leftfielder Morgan Farthing was chosen as the Adidas / Game One PC Student-Athlete of the Week after pounding an RBI-triple in the Morehead win and leading the Blue Hose with a .455 BA in those four games.

- True freshman Hali Duke cranked her first career homer in Sunday's W, a solo shot in the 4th that helped the Blue Hose avoid extra innings when all was said and done.
