CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team (4-3) battled to the end on Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 18) but came up short, suffering a 4-3 narrow defeat at the hands of Charleston on the Templeton Center Tennis Courts.
The Blue Hose lost the doubles point but rallied to cut the deficit to 3-2 late in the match, but the Cougars closed it out to pick up a 4-3 win.
Charleston recorded wins on all three doubles courts to open the match and grab a 1-0 lead.
The Cougars extended their lead to 2-0 with a straight-set win on court four.
Mary Ellen Longmire started the response for PC, picking up a straight-set 6-2, 7-6 (4) win on court six. The Cougars went back up 3-2 after a win on court two, but Ladina Bruhin answered right back to keep PC in it with a three-set 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Sia Cariov on the top court.
Grace Katzman fought hard on court three, rallying to force her match to a decider after dropping the opening set. However, Charleston took the third set 6-4 to claim the win.
Luciana Parrilli closed out the match with a three-set victory over Riley Tinkle 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (8-6).
