PC Drops Final Road Contest of Season at Radford

RADFORD, Va. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball team (3-25, 1-14 Big South) played its final road game of the regular season on Wednesday night (Feb. 25), falling to Radford 95-54 at the Dedmon Center.

 

The Blue Hose made their first four shots of the game to jump out to a 9-2 lead, but Radford controlled proceedings the rest of the way. The Highlanders shot 60 percent from the floor offensively, going 36-of-60 from the field to come away with 95 points. 

 

Krystal Haddock led the Blue Hose offensively, scoring 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting. She also had success from the foul line, making five of her six attempts. Her 17 points on the night are one shy of her season and career-high at Longwood on Jan. 3. This is the 10th time that she has scored in double figures this season.

 

Ja'Cia Cunningham also scored in double figures for Presbyterian, going 5-of-6 at the free throw line. She has now scored at least 10 points in 15 games this season. Amani Williams led PC defensively, grabbing seven rebounds and blocking two shots. Her two blocks are a new career-high.

 

  

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter

The Blue Hose started out the game on fire, making their first four shots of the night to race out to an early 9-2 lead just over two minutes into the game. However, Radford settled in and responded, embarking on a 12-0 run to retake the lead and establish control. Krystal Haddock and Ja'Cia Cunningham ended the run with baskets, helping PC stay within five with a couple of minutes to go. The Highlanders answered once more before the end of the quarter, scoring the final six points of the period to go up 26-15.

 


Second Quarter
Amani Williams opened the second quarter with a basket before the Highlanders went back up double digits. Haddock and Cunningham helped PC respond to stay within single digits in the middle of the quarter. Two free throws from Cunningham got PC within seven down 36-29 with three minutes to go in the half, but Radford controlled the rest of the quarter. The Highlanders finished the half on a 12-0 run to go up 19 at the break. 

 


Third Quarter
Ore Ogunwolere got the Blue Hose on the board in the second half, making two free throws. Later in the quarter, Samantha Mullock scored her first points of the evening on a layup. Amani Williams finished the quarter with three points for the Blue Hose, but Radford continued to control the game going into the fourth. The Highlanders took a 69-41 advantage heading into the final period of the evening.

 

 

Fourth Quarter
Krystal Haddock stayed hot offensively for the Blue Hose in the final quarter, scoring seven of PC's first nine points of the period. She finished the night with 17 points. Yolanda Floyd made her second basket of the game in the closing minutes of the contest. Cunningham poured in PC's final basket of the night to finish the game scoring in double figures. However, Radford finished strong, closing out the fourth quarter with a 95-54 victory.
