Five-Game Slate in Georgia for PC Softball

MACON, Ga. – Fresh off a midweek sweep over North Carolina A&T that featured 18 total runs and 25 hits, the Presbyterian College softball team heads to Mercer for a three-day slate of games against the Bears, Tennessee State, and Columbia.

PC is scheduled for a 10:00 AM start on Friday and Saturday and will play Mercer for the second time on Sunday afternoon, wrapping up a busy sequence and looking to build on their 8-6 record.

Head coach David Williams' roster has never faced either Tennessee State or Columbia, with this weekend's games being the first time that Presby has played outside South Carolina this semester.

Friday's opponents and start times are weather permitting, as the Blue Hose continue their pre-Big South journey that lasts until mid-March.

SCOUTING TENNESSEE STATE

- A squad that was one game above .500 last spring before being a one-and-done exit in the OVC Tournament, TSU has struggled to get off the mat in 2026 with a winless record at this stage.

- Fifth-year head coach Genee McRath and co. barley lost their most recent contest to ETSU in an 8-7 thriller, although half of their six losses have come by at least 10 runs.

- The Tigers' opponents are averaging 12 runs per game, as Tennessee State was swept by Butler along with two setbacks to ETSU and a 12-0 outcome versus Bowling Green.

SCOUTING COLUMBIA

- A longtime member of the Ivy League (denoting the third school from that conference to ever play the Blue Hose), Columbia has not fared well in their first two weekends by starting 0-9.

- The Lions' two highest scoring efforts of the year – versus Stetson and St. John's – still ended up tilting to the opposition, as they've also been on the losing side against Fairfield, Appalachian State, and UNC Greensboro.

- Head coach Jennifer Teague (currently in her 12th year) had her unit at 15-6 in conference meetings last spring, although they took two straight defeats to Brown and Princeton in the postseason to end with a 24-18 mark.

SCOUTING MERCER

- One of the better mid-major programs in the south, Mercer had an exceptional run all the way to the Regional Championship game in 2025 and, as of Friday morning, holds an identical record to PC (8-6).

- Four of the Bears' losses have come to either SEC or Big Ten institutions (including an appearance against #1 Tennessee). Mercer and the Blue Hose share a common opponent, as they too won twice over North Carolina A&T by a combined tally of 22-4.

- Chris Kuhlmeyer was announced as Mercer's newest head coach back in June, taking over a program that won the Southern Conference tournament after a 5th-place finish in the regular season standings.

- The Bears won five straight elimination games to capture the SoCon title, beating top-seed Chattanooga twice to earn the automatic bid to the NCAA's. In the big dance, they eliminated both Georgia Tech and Florida Atlantic before ultimately being sent home by third-ranked Florida.

LAST TIME OUT

- Presby's offensive numbers were spectacular in Wednesday's sweep over A&T, getting 21 combined hits from Cierra Grice, Morgan Farthing, Avery Robinson, Blair Darby, and Hali Duke.

- Farthing sent in a 9th-inning walk-off single to win the first half of that DH (scoring pinch-runner Sabrina Rose), finalizing the first win by PC in a game to go that length since 2023.

- Duke and Darby both launched two-run homers in the twinbill, while Grice batted 6-of-8 with two doubles and four runs scored.

- Farthing and Duke added up for 11 RBI in those two outings, as the Blue Hose found five different innings with multiple runs.

- Robinson took the Game One win after starter Kylie Rast struck out seven, while Peyton Duncan published her 25th career victory by retiring 10 straight batters in the rematch.
