Softball Begins Fresh Season with Five-Team Tournament

CLINTON, S.C. – The 18th season of Division I softball at Presbyterian College will have first pitch this weekend as the Blue Hose and head coach David Williams host a five-team round robin tournament. Each school gets four games, starting tomorrow.

Three of PC's opponents will be visiting Clinton for the first time ever as each team begins with a clean slate. Presby takes on Le Moyne at approximately 4:30 on Friday, then they'll meet both Western Michigan and Dayton on Saturday back-to-back.

Morehead State will finish up the invitational on Sunday, as Coach Williams' crew starts off the 2026 campaign with 10 straight home events.

There is much intrigue surrounding the Blue Hose this year, returning seven starters from 2025 and also bringing in three high-level transfers. They will look to build on a 21-29 ledger last spring.

SCOUTING LE MOYNE

- Entering their third season as a Division I institution, the Dolphins (who compete in the Northeast Conference) are based out of Syracuse.

- Head Coach Tracey Roman has guided Le Moyne through the D-I transition as she approaches her seventh year in charge. Her squad went 16-28 last season, which included a 7-11 mark against league foes.

- The Dolphins were picked to finish 5th in the preseason NEC coaches' poll. Third-baseman Cianna Benamati is certainly Le Moyne's most productive returner, collecting an all-conference first team bid as a freshman last year after batting .342 and smacking eight homers.

SCOUTING WESTERN MICHIGAN

- Western Michigan (a mainstay in the Mid-American Conference) will be in the same boat as Le Moyne, headed to Clinton for the first time following a 16-36 record last season.

- Head Coach and Bronco alum Marlee Wilson was unable to get her club to the MAC Tournament last time out, going 10-17 in league play.

- Senior utility Tristen Head will be one of the toughest outs of any hitter all weekend, an all-conference first team pick last year behind 22 RBI, 44 total hits, and a .352 average at the plate.

SCOUTING DAYTON

- Arguably the Atlantic 10 Conference's most consistent team under the direction of Head Coach Cara Clark (who goes into her 19th season tomorrow), Dayton has claimed the last two A-10 regular season championships.

- The Flyers were excellent in league territory during the '25 campaign, going 17-5 in A-10 matchups and winning 30 games altogether.

- Despite a seven-game winning streak just before the conference tourney, Dayton was ousted quickly in the postseason. They were eliminated by Saint Louis in a 10-inning thriller, conceding a solo home run for the game's only score.

- Two of Dayton's five all-conference first-teamers are back in 2026: shortstop Kirnan Bailey and pitcher Izzy Kemp (2.09 ERA, 14-5 personal record, 193 strikeouts last year).

SCOUTING MOREHEAD STATE

- This is the second consecutive year that Morehead State will play at PC during the opening weekend of the season. Presbyterian bettered the Eagles twice 12 months ago, winning by respective scores of 6-4 and 9-6.

- Head Coach Megan Griffith goes into year four at MSU, aiming to steer the ship in the right direction after picking up just eight wins last time out.

- Morehead was the 10th-place projection in the preseason Ohio Valley Conference poll, although they do bring back two All-OVC selections in the form of centerfielder Maddy Christoper and third-baseman Sela Pickford.
