CLINTON, S.C. – Behind four double-figure scorers, the Presbyterian Blue Hose (12-13, Big South: 5-5) topped the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs (3-22, Big South: 1-9), 68-62, at the Templeton Center on Saturday afternoon.
Carl Parrish paced all scorers with 16 points while shooting a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
Jaylen Peterson recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Khalon Hudson scored 12 points off the bench while shooting 4-for-6 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
Triston Wilson rounded out Presbyterian's double-figure scorers with 10 points.
Jonah Pierce grabbed 10 rebounds in the win.
Presbyterian scored 40 points in the paint.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Parrish scored PC's first basket with a driving layup 31 seconds into the game. The score was tied a couple of times with several lead changes in the early part of the game. At the 13:20 minute mark, the score was tied at 13; Gardner-Webb scored four straight points, taking the first half lead for good. Gardner-Webb would take a 36-31 lead into the halftime locker room. Hudson scored 12 points in the first half for the Blue Hose. Â
SECOND HALF – Presbyterian scored eight of the first 10 points of the half, taking a 39-38 lead after a pull-up jumper in the lane by Parrish with just over three minutes gone in the half. Parrish scored six points during the early run.  The two teams exchanged baskets and the lead for the next few minutes. With Gardner-Webb leading 42-41, the Blue Hose scored six straight points, taking a 47-42 lead after a layup by
Josh Pickett, who scored eight points in the game, with 13:02 on the clock. After two free throws from Parrish, Presbyterian opened a 53-45 lead with 10 minutes on the clock. Gardner-Webb went on a 7-0 scoring run, cutting the Blue Hose's lead to 53-52. Free throws from
Chidi Chiakwelu and Pierce put the Blue Hose in front by three. Gardner-Webb scored four straight points, regaining the lead, 56-55, with 5:52 on the clock. With five minutes on the clock, a dunk by Wilson put the Blue Hose back in front for good. A driving layup by Wilson with just over a minute left in the game put PC in front by five points. Clutch free throw shooting by Parrish in the final 30 seconds closed out Presbyterian's win.
