CLINTON, S.C. – The first of six Big South Conference series for the Presbyterian College softball team is due up this weekend, as the Scotsmen return home for a Friday doubleheader and solo Saturday outing against in-state foe Winthrop.
ESPN+ will be streaming the entire set in Clinton, continuing a yearly rivalry that has persisted since 2008. PC displays an 8-4 record versus Winthrop over the past four seasons, including a two-games-to-one series win at home two years back.
The action will begin at 1:00 both days, with Presbyterian welcoming an opponent from 90 minutes down the road that has won six of its last eight matchups.
PC hopes to shelve a nine-game losing streak tomorrow after taking two tight defeats at Western Carolina. They hold a 16-7 mark against Winthrop all-time when playing on their home turf.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- Winthrop has made a solid name for themselves near the top of a talented Big South, holding the third-most wins in the league and batting .290 as a unit.
- Since the final day of February, the Eagles have posted a 6-2 mark and just recently lost to 24
th-ranked Clemson by a respectable 7-3 margin. They've been particularly impressive in Rock Hill, going 11-3 with home-field advantage.
- Head coach Kendall Fuller is in the midst of her third year at Winthrop, advancing all the way to the Big South Championship game last spring after eliminating number-one seed Radford but ultimately falling to USC Upstate.
- PC and Winthrop already have five mutual opponents just over a month into the campaign, as the Eagles earned a 4-1 ledger at a self-hosted tournament last weekend (defeating ETSU twice, Georgia State, and Bucknell).
- Following a 3-0 personal record and a 1.56 ERA, junior Lonna Addison was selected as the Big South co-Pitcher of the Week. She has thrown seven complete games this year, good enough to rank 12
th nationally.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Blue Hose have endured a very difficult slate in the last week-and-a-half, keeping pace fairly well with a red-hot Western Carolina squad on Tuesday but dropping both games of a doubleheader by respective scores of 4-1 and 5-4.
-
Molly Mattas and
Jessica Wilson produced a couple of last-chance RBI in the 7
th inning of Game 2 as pinch hitters, but PC would unfortunately leave all three runners stranded after tying the score and ended up losing via a walk-off double.
-
Avery Robinson (the team's leader in both batting average and ERA) currently has the lowest number of hits allowed per seven innings in the entire Big South (five). She pitched 3.2 of relief in the opener against WCU and conceded just one hit along with one walk.
- Presby's second and third-best batters from a statistical standpoint are both freshman infielders, as
Hali Duke and
Cierra Grice have combined for 29 RBI. At least one of them has recorded a hit in 17 consecutive contests.
- The Blue Hose have a .968 fielding percentage with 27 games completed, the best number of all nine schools in the conference. Robinson,
Peyton Duncan, and
Kylie Rast have aided PC to a team ERA of four on the nose, also the best in the division.
