Blue Hose Run-Rule UNC Asheville 11-1 to Claim Series

CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College baseball team (4-17, 2-1 Big South) overwhelmed UNC Asheville in the series finale on Sunday afternoon (March 15), dominating en route to an 11-1 seven-inning victory over the Bulldogs at the PC Baseball Complex.

 

Tristan McGregor threw PC's second complete game in as many days, recording a career-high 11 strikeouts while allowing just five hits. The Blue Hose were on fire once again, scoring 11 runs on 10 hits to help PC finish the weekend with a victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UNC Asheville struck first to start the game, leading off the afternoon with a run in the top of the first.

- The Blue Hose quickly took control of the game in the second, scoring two runs to take the lead. After a Caden Mason leadoff walk, Emory Guilford brought him home with an RBI triple. Later in the inning, Cam Mallo singled home Guilford to put the Blue Hose on top.

- The momentum carried over into the third, as Presbyterian extended the lead. Mason delivered with another clutch RBI base hit, scoring Bo Moody and James Green to help PC go ahead 4-1.

- The Presbyterian offense exploded again in the fourth, plating four more runs to add to the team's impressive day. Moody and Nick Smith recorded RBI base hits. The Blue Hose also drew two walks with the bases loaded to grab an 8-1 advantage over the Bulldogs.

- PC added on three more runs in the sixth to take a double-digit lead over UNC Asheville. Albertus continued his excellent day at the plate with an RBI single. Green scored Smith on a sacrifice fly RBI, while one more run later came around on a wild pitch.

- Tristan McGregor was in command all afternoon on the mound and shut the door in the seventh, finishing a complete game with 11 strikeouts and securing a series win for PC.

 

 

NOTABLES 
- Tristan McGregor delivered the best performance of his career on the mound, throwing a complete game. He finished with a career-high 11 strikeouts while allowing just one run. His seven innings pitched is his second-longest career pitching appearance.

- Just like Saturday, seven different Blue Hose players logged at least one hit. All seven posted at least one RBI as well.

- Andrew Albertus and Bo Moody both had multi-hit days, each going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Albertus finished the series 4-for-8 at the plate.

- Five different Blue Hose players reached base three times: James Green, Moody, Caden Mason, Nick Smith, and Cam Mallo.

- Emory Guilford recorded his first career triple in the second inning.

- Green has reached base in each of his last seven games.
- Presbyterian scored 11 runs as a team for the second straight day.
