Blue Hose Nipped by Gardner-Webb

CLINTON, S.C. – Matija Samardzic, David Mamalat, and Eduardo Valentin collected singles wins, but the Presbyterian Blue Hose (7-4, Big South: 0-1) suffered a narrow defeat to the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs (11-3, Big South: 2-0), 4-3, at the Templeton Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon. The loss snapped Presbyterian's five-match winning streak.
 
DOUBLES
Gardner-Webb claimed the doubles points with wins on courts three and two. At number one doubles, Presbyterian's double duo of Mamalat and Samardzic recorded their eighth straight win with a 7-6 victory.
 
SINGLES
The two teams split the six singles matches. Gardner-Webb increased its lead to 2-0 with a win on court six. Samardzic cut Gardner-Webb's lead in half with a 6-3, 6-2 win at number two singles. Gardner-Webb increased its lead to 3-1 with a win at number three singles. Gardner-Webb captured the overall victory with a three-set win at number five singles. Mamalat outlasted Gardner-Webb's Alexandre Bergerson, 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6) at number one singles. Presbyterian's Valentin finished the match with a 7-6 (8-6), 3-6, 7-5 win on court four.
