Blue Hose Set to Face Buccaneers on Wednesday

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team (6-10, 1-0 Big South) returns home for Big South play on Wednesday afternoon (March 25), taking on conference foe Charleston Southern at 1:00 p.m. on the Templeton Center Tennis Courts.

BLUE HOSE NOTES
- Presbyterian played three matches last week, finishing 1-2. The Blue Hose came back to defeat NJIT 4-3 at home on Thursday but fell to NC Central and UNCG over the weekend by 4-3 scores.

- PC trailed 3-1 against the Highlanders on Thursday afternoon before charging back. Luciana Parrilli, Roxy Valdes, and Sofia Rodrigo Hidalgo all dropped their opening sets but stormed back to win in three sets to secure a PC victory.

- Valdes had a great week for the Blue Hose, winning all three of her singles matches. On Saturday and Sunday, she made her debut on the top singles court, cruising to back-to-back straight-set victories. She is now 2-0 on the top singles court this year.

- Ladina Bruhin powers Presbyterian in singles this season. She leads the team in wins with seven, with five of them coming on the top court. Grace Katzman is second on the team with six singles victories.

- Katzman and Mary Ellen Longmire pace the Blue Hose in doubles in 2026. They boast a 7-2 record as a duo to lead the team. Bruhin and Valdes are second with five wins as a team.

 


A CLOSER LOOK AT THE BLUE HOSE
The Blue Hose return four from last season to this year's squad. McKenzie Davis, Mary Ellen Longmire, Sofia Rodrigo Hidalgo, and Elle Sceney are all back for Presbyterian. Five newcomers join PC this season as well. Katherine Bauer, Ladina Bruhin, Luciana Parrilli, and Roxy Valdes highlight the Blue Hose freshmen class. Finally, sophomore transfer Grace Katzman comes to the Blue Hose from North Greenville University.

 


FALL BIG SOUTH DOUBLES CHAMPIONS
McKenzie Davis and Ladina Bruhin won the second-ever edition of the Big South Fall Doubles Championship as the No. 3 seed in October. The pair picked up three wins in the tournament to claim the title, clinching the championship with an 8-4 win in the final over the No. 5 seed Marina Skegro and Carlota Farres of Charleston Southern. The duo earned automatic entry into the ITA Conference Masters Championships in San Diego by way of their victory, where they reached the round of 16.

 


SCOUTING THE BUCCANEERS
- Charleston Southern controls the all-time series with Presbyterian, winning 18 of the 20 all-time meetings. PC's lone victories over the Buccaneers came in 2018 and 2019. Charleston Southern has won six straight in the series.

- The Buccaneers come into Wednesday's meeting with a 7-8 overall record and a 1-1 mark in the Big South. Charleston Southern enters the match hot, having won four of its last five matches. In conference play, the Buccaneers defeated Gardner-Webb but fell to Longwood 4-2 on March 19.

- Head coach Anca Dumitrescu is in her ninth season at the helm for Charleston Southern.
