CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian College freshman Roxy Valdés has been named Big South Co-Freshman of the Week in honors announced Wednesday (March 25) by the conference.
Valdés turned in the best week of her collegiate career, winning all three of her singles matches. On Thursday afternoon (March 19), she emerged victorious in a tight three-set match against Paula Alvarez of NJIT on court two, helping Presbyterian rally from a 3-1 deficit to complete a 4-3 thrilling comeback win in Clinton over the Highlanders.
She stayed hot the rest of the weekend, making her singles debut on the top court against NC Central and UNC Greensboro. She finished off both matches in straight sets on the road, improving to 2-0 playing on the top court.
She also posted a 6-0 doubles win with partner Ladina Bruhin against UNCG on court three.
Valdés is the third Blue Hose player to earn Freshman of the Week honors this season. This is the first time in program history that three different Blue Hose freshmen have earned the award.
This is the fifth time this year that a Blue Hose player has taken home the honor (Ladina Bruhin (3x), Luciana Parrilli). The previous program record for most Big South Freshman of the Week awards in one season was three in 2017.
