RADFORD, Va. – The Presbyterian College softball team emerges from a nine-day break this weekend in a very important Big South Conference set, headed to defending league champion Radford for a single game tomorrow at noon and a Saturday doubleheader.
PC began the Big South schedule with a two-games-to-one series victory over Winthrop earlier this month, taking the rubber match by a 5-3 count. They'll aim to win a conference series on the road for the first time since 2023.
These two schools locked horns in the regular season finale last year, a sequence that saw Radford pull out a sweep in Clinton to confirm their first Big South title in 13 years.
Presby has played the Highlanders every year since 2009, looking to improve on a 4-11 record in games played away from home.

SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS
- Head coach Kevin Fagan stepped into the role at Radford in the summer of 2024 and delivered a Big South championship in year one, although his squad saw a disappointing exit in the conference tournament at the hands of Winthrop (1-0).
- The Highlanders ran away with the league crown last spring with a 14-4 Big South record, although they were swept by USC Upstate in their first Big South series of 2026.
- They are thus far the only school in the division yet to win a conference game, currently seven games below .500 although they lead the league in fielding percentage (.963).
- Reigning Big South Pitcher of the Year Dakota Redmon touts a 3.84 ERA, second in the league behind PC's own
Avery Robinson. She tossed 14 total innings in the Upstate series, giving up just three earned runs and striking out 10.
- Radford's only home loss came to #16 Virginia, and they also boast a neutral-site W over ACC rep Boston College. They were last seen in a 9-1 setback to Charlotte 48 hours ago.
LAST TIME OUT
- Following the Winthrop wins, Presbyterian took a midweek visit to Wofford and ended with a 6-2 defeat. All six of the Terriers' runs came early in the 2
nd inning.
- Robinson was the starter when Wofford came to PC in February, and she allowed just one hit in five frames. In the Spartanburg rematch, she entered in relief and again turned a solid showing with 4.2 scoreless innings.
- She is the only pitcher in the Big South with an ERA below 3.00, as she did not allow any earned runs over five innings of work versus Winthrop (all in relief).
-
Cierra Grice and
Hali Duke – two freshmen who are typically PC's first two batters in the order – have logged at least one hit between them in 21 consecutive games which dates back almost four weeks.
- Duke leads the roster with 12 extra-base swings, while Robinson landed her first home run of the campaign during the Wofford affair (the team's ninth longball this season).
