CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College lacrosse team was unable to place another building block after a double-overtime triumph at Gardner-Webb earlier in the week, dropping a 10-7 decision to Longwood on Saturday Senior Night.
PC now sits at 1-4 against Big South adversaries next to a 4-10 overall ledger. They played the majority of the game within striking distance against the Lancers, but never could take the lead in the three-point final.
Kayleigh Aitken,
Brooklyn Shepard-Wheelon,
Alyssa Perez,
Avery West, and
Olivia Ballard were each recognized in a pregame Senior Night ceremony. They will suit up one last time at Bailey Memorial Stadium later this month.
Longwood keeper Isabella McCullough was the biggest factor for the visiting party, ending with 14 saves to help cover for the fact that her squad was outshot by the Blue Hose 27-22.
Three games remain for Presbyterian, who will next visit Wofford after a week-long rest. Opening draw in Spartanburg on the 18
th is planned for 1:00 on ESPN+.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The sophomore tandem of
Emily Currie and
Madeleine Lowrance made up over half of PC's point total (four goals out of the team's seven). That gives the former 11 makes over the last three outings.
-
Hannah Savage,
Sydney Howard, and rookie
Harper Johnson accounted for the other three Blue Hose hits, although Longwood was able to surge ahead with a 3-0 lead after the first nine minutes.
- The Virginia visitors held a slim 6-4 edge at intermission, keeping Presby at bay for the last two periods and only giving up one PC score in the 4
th (from Lowrance).
- Head coach
Eric Clakeley's gang was able to string together back-to-back goals just once on Saturday, knocking on the door several times but coming up shy in the end.
- Both sides had 22 turnovers on a hot day, with the vast majority of them occurring on the offensive end of the field (there were just four failed clears combined).
- Aitken played the full 60 which denotes her 30
th start since joining the program. She led the roster with four ground ball pickups, while Howard earned three caused turnovers and a couple of draws.
