CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team (6-12, 1-2 Big South) was back in action on Thursday afternoon (April 2), suffering a 5-2 defeat to Longwood in Big South play on the Templeton Center Tennis Courts.
The Lancers edged PC in doubles to start the match. The Blue Hose battled in singles, but Longwood was able to secure the win with victories on courts one, two, three, and five.
Longwood opened the match with a win on the top doubles court. Right after, Ladina Bruhin and Roxy Valdes cruised to a 6-3 victory on doubles court three.
The doubles point came down to court two. The match went to a tiebreaker, as both teams went back and forth with one another. However, Longwood came through in a narrow tiebreaker, winning the breaker 8-6 to clinch the doubles point.
Mary Ellen Longmore quickly responded for Presbyterian in singles, dominating to a 6-0, 6-1 win on court six.
Longwood took the lead back with a win on court three, but Grace Katzman answered for PC with a straight-set victory on court four to even the proceedings.
The Lancers picked up a straight-set win shortly after on court five to go ahead 3-2. On courts one and two, Presbyterian battled to force deciding sets on both courts, but Longwood took both matches in the end to claim a 5-2 victory over the Blue Hose.
