CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian College Director of Athletics Dee Nichols announced on Friday (July 10) that women's tennis coach Joel Roberts is leaving the program to pursue new opportunities.
"Joel has represented Presbyterian College with tremendous class and integrity and leaves behind an immeasurable legacy," said Nichols. "It has been gratifying to watch Coach pour into his players and to take pride in their success both on and off the court. We are forever grateful for everything Joel and his family have meant to PC Athletics and the lasting impact they have made on our program. While we are sad to say goodbye, we fully support Joel's decision and wish him and his family continued success in this next chapter."
"It was an absolute privilege to be the head coach for the last seven years," said Roberts. "PC holds such a special place in my wife's and I's heart, and we will miss it dearly. I just want to say thank you to the players over the years for all of their hard work and dedication on and off the court to our program. It was a difficult decision but the best decision for me and my family to pursue another opportunity. Finally, thank you to Dee Nichols for the opportunity to coach at my alma mater. We cannot wait to come back and visit and be the girls' biggest supporters! Go Blue Hose!"
Roberts spent seven seasons leading the Blue Hose women's tennis program, totaling nearly forty wins. Under his guidance, PC earned six All-Conference honors in singles and five honors in doubles. In 2021, he led the Blue Hose to a runner-up regular season finish in the Big South, tying their best conference finish in the Division I era.
An accomplished alum of Presbyterian as well, Roberts helped the men's program reach new heights. During his four years (2013-17), he led PC to its second Big South regular season title, first Big South Tournament title, and first NCAA Tournament appearance. He finished his career ranked fifth in PC's DI history in doubles wins with 52.
A national search is underway to determine the next women's tennis coach at Presbyterian College.
